Responsibilities: The Digital Archivist will assume
management responsibilities in the area of archival processing of material
regardless of format, including oversight and participation in the arrangement,
description, and preparation of finding aids. The Archivist will lead the
archives’ digital initiatives and develop strategies for the management of
digital assets; responsibilities include digitization, creation of metadata,
and providing access as well as working with other library and university staff
on long-term preservation and maintenance of digital materials. This position
will provide some references services and assistance with archive outreach
activities.
Education qualifications: Master’s degree, preferably in history or social sciences, or MLS required. Academy of Certified Archivist certification preferred.
Experience: Previous archival education/experience required. Knowledge of archival standards,
theory, and practice required. Experience with archival processing required. Knowledge of
creation and preservation of digital assets required. Familiarity with XML and
current and emerging cataloging and metadata standards is preferred (EAD,
MODS). Evidence of written and oral communication skills required.
