Post-Doctoral Researcher

OCLC Online Computer Library Center, Inc. is a nonprofit, membership, computer library service and research organization dedicated to the public purposes of furthering access to the world's information and reducing information costs.  Tens of thousands of libraries around the world use OCLC services to locate, acquire, catalog, lend and preserve library materials.  We are currently seeking candidates for a Post-Doctoral Researcher position at our Corporate Headquarters in Dublin (Columbus), Ohio.

The Post-Doctoral Researcher will typically work with existing teams in OCLC Research, under the guidance and supervision of a permanent scientific staff member.  However, the Post Doctoral Researcher also will be encouraged to propose new research topics and projects within the scope of his/her activities.  The Post-Doctoral Researcher will be expected to maintain familiarity with the literature in the domain of expertise, to acquire and demonstrate understanding of new domains relevant to the individual’s work, and bring these skills to bear through the scholarly publication process and public presentation of research results in conferences and workshops.

Responsibilities:  The Post-Doctoral Researcher will possess the ability to:

  • Identify and work on problems in the dsicpline of expertise
  • Develop proof-of-concept software and participation in open source software projects
  • Share research outcomes either internally within OCLC or externally in the larger community
  • Support the projects of the research team and corporate, division, and member goals and projects
  • Prepare, present, and disseminate research findings by publishing in professional journals and orally at professional conferences and meetings
  • Meet project time lines
  • Assist with the development of grant proposals

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or Ph.D. pending in Library & Information Science, Computer Science, Informatics, Cognitive Psychology, or related discipline
  • Demonstrated knowledge of research methods and ability to analyze and synthesize data
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Familiarity with the preparation and editing of documents for the production and distribution of digital publications
  • Familiarity with quantitative and qualitative data analysis software programs
  • Experience with open source software development

Records Manager/Digital Resources Archivist

Williams College Libraries seeks a creative, service-oriented and technologically skilled archivist to galvanize the college’s records management program and help shape the libraries’ role in college-wide initiatives to manage the campus’s intellectual property.  As a small liberal arts college library we value collegiality, collaboration and working one-on-one with members of the campus community.  The Records Manager/Digital Resources Archivist reports to the College Archivist/Special Collections Librarian and is an active member of the department. This is a full-time, 12-month administrative staff position.

Responsibilities:

The Records Manager/Digital Resources Archivist works with college offices, departments and committees to identify, evaluate and preserve college records of continuing administrative, legal, fiscal and historical value.  S/he surveys records, institutes efficient record keeping practices and, in conjunction with college officials and the College Archivist, creates and updates retention and disposition schedules.  S/he collects and maintains college records, in all formats, according to national standards.

The Records Manager/Digital Resources Archivist identifies and collects other digital assets that document the intellectual, cultural and creative output of the college, and oversees digitization of materials from the collections of the College Archives.  S/he evaluates, recommends and implements standards-based methods for effective management of electronic records, access to digital resources, and digital preservation policies and procedures.

As a member of Williams College Archives & Special Collections, this individual provides reference and research support to faculty, students, staff and visiting scholars, and shares responsibility with Chapin Library and College Archives colleagues in staffing the reading room.  Additional responsibilities may include participating in the hiring, training and supervision of student assistants, serving as collection development library liaison to an academic department, and serve on library and campus committees.

Requirements:
ALA-accredited Master's degree in library, archives or information studies, and 3-5 years of applicable professional experience.

Demonstrated knowledge of archival and records management principles and practices, and experience acquiring and managing records.  Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

Demonstrated experience with digital imaging, current metadata and digital object standards, and digital asset management tools.  Knowledge of intellectual property rights.

Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.  The ability to build and sustain relationships with key constituencies of the academic community.

Ability to work independently and take initiative while working collaboratively in a team environment.  Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, enthusiasm for problem-solving, ability to set priorities and manage projects.

Knowledge of and commitment to the values of a liberal arts education.  Demonstrated user-oriented approach to service.  An appreciation of a highly-engaged faculty, staff, student, and alumni population.

Ability to lift 25 lb boxes.

Preferred:

Experience working in an archives or records management position in higher education.

Experience with the management of electronic records or electronic content management systems, digital preservation, and Web programming.

Digital and Web Services Librarian

The Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine seeks an innovative, collaborative, flexible, and service-oriented librarian to join us in launching a new medical library. Assistant Professor of Filmmaking


Job Description: The New School seeks to hire a renewable term Assistant Professor in Filmmaking jointly with the Department of Media Studies and Film and the University’s signature Bachelor’s Program in the liberal arts. Media Studies and Film and the Bachelor’s Program provide a progressive undergraduate education for approximately 700 students, adults, and transfer students who pursue self-designed degrees. Our classes include both degree and non-degree students, including a large number of students with interest and prior experience in media and film.
The Assistant Professor will be expected to teach a broad spectrum of undergraduate and graduate courses.  He or she will advise students completing the liberal arts degree and contribute to the ongoing restructuring to the undergraduate curriculum, including the development of an undergraduate curriculum in Media Studies and Film.  Candidates must be qualified to teach the core film curriculum, which includes historical, theoretical and production aspects of cinema.

The Assistant Director for Academic Programs directly supervises the staff of our eight (8) Living Learning Communities as well as our Residence Hall Library System. The Living Learning Communities include: Women In Math Science and Engineering (WIMSE), Health Professions, Global Crossroads, Intersections (A community examining race in America), LEADS (Leadership Development), Weston Exploration (Career Exploration), Unit One (Liberal Arts Education), and Innovation (Entrepreneurial).

Our eight Residence Hall Libraries were established to meet the informational, educational, cultural, and recreational needs of our students. The Residence Hall Library collection consists of 28,000 book titles, a large collection of DVDs, compact discs, and popular magazines including an extensive diversity and social identity collection. This Assistant Director position supervises the administration of all libraries and library staff in the University Housing Library system. The Library staff includes a full-time professional Librarian, two full time secretaries, 2 graduate assistants, 2 graduate supervisors, and 55 students.

We are seeking an individual who can further our current Living-Learning programs as well as think strategically to create future programs that strive toward our vision. We believe student learning in the residence halls directly supports the academic mission of the university by linking classroom learning to out-of-class experience, encouraging relationship building across cultures, and by preparing our students to engage intellectually in their community.

The position is a full-time, 12-month academic professional appointment.
