Assistant Professor of Filmmaking

Job Description: The New School seeks to hire a renewable term Assistant Professor in Filmmaking jointly with the Department of Media Studies and Film and the University’s signature Bachelor’s Program in the liberal arts. Media Studies and Film and the Bachelor’s Program provide a progressive undergraduate education for approximately 700 students, adults, and transfer students who pursue self-designed degrees. Our classes include both degree and non-degree students, including a large number of students with interest and prior experience in media and film.
The Assistant Professor will be expected to teach a broad spectrum of undergraduate and graduate courses.  He or she will advise students completing the liberal arts degree and contribute to the ongoing restructuring to the undergraduate curriculum, including the development of an undergraduate curriculum in Media Studies and Film.  Candidates must be qualified to teach the core film curriculum, which includes historical, theoretical and production aspects of cinema.

Qualifications: An MA/MFA degree and significant professional and teaching experience is required.
