McIntyre Library

The McIntyre Library at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire has a probationary tenure track faculty vacancy available at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor or full Professor to serve as Reference/Instruction Librarian - Government Publications with an anticipated start date of Spring 2010. This is a 12-month full-time position reporting to the Director of Libraries. Minimum salary is $48,000; salary and rank commensurate with education and experience.

McIntyre Library has a staff of 12.50 FTE library faculty, and 17 FTE classified staff. The Library maintains a very active information literacy program, provides access to a wide range of digital resources, is a selective state and federal document depository, and includes a regional historical research center and university archives. McIntyre Library has a collection of almost 600,000 titles, 2 million volumes, and 17,000 online and print periodical subscriptions; and works closely with other UW System libraries in keeping with the “One System, One Library” approach to the delivery of collections and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position manages and promotes the library's collections and information technology to maximize their positive impact on teaching, learning, and research in the UW-Eau Claire community. Additionally, this position oversees the library's Government Publications Collections.

Reference/Instruction Duties:
  • Teaches library instruction/information literacy sessions, including specialized instruction for government information resources.
  • Serves as a liaison to assigned departments by consulting and collaborating with students and faculty to meet their information and instructional needs.
  • Collaborates with other library faculty in planning, promoting and assessing information literacy initiatives.
  • Staffs the reference desk, including some weekend and evening hours.

Government Publications Duties:

  • Serves as the designated depository coordinator in compliance with the recommendations of the Federal Depository Library Program and the Wisconsin State Depository Program.
  • Oversees collection development, access, organization and housing of the government collections, assuring ready access to government information, regardless of format.
  • Promotes the use of federal and state documents within the library and to the University community.

Faculty Duties:

  • Serves on appropriate Library, campus and UW System committees.
  • Pursues continued study, scholarly activities, and creative work.
  • Participates in professional and community service activities.

Head of Electronic Acquisitions and Licensing Unit

Administrative Librarian: Head of Access Services

Job Description: The Alkek Library is seeking enthusiastic and forwarding-thinking applicants for the position of Head of Access Services. This position is responsible for the management and development of the Access Services Department which includes a staff of eleven Library Assistants. Grateful Dead Archivist

The University Library of the University of California, Santa Cruz, seeks an enterprising, creative, and service-oriented archivist to join the staff of Special Collections & Archives (SC&A) as Archivist for the Grateful Dead Archive. Director, School of Library and Information Studies, University of Oklahoma (Full or Associate Professor).

The mission of the SLIS is to provide excellence in education, preparing leaders for a diverse, highly technological, knowledge-based global society; to engage in research and creative activities that generate new knowledge and applications for effective practice and that foster interdisciplinary approaches to address information challenges; and to meet the complex information needs of society through public and professional service.

The School has three degree programs: an ALA-accredited master’s degree in library and information studies (MLIS); a master of science in knowledge management (MSKM), and a bachelor of arts in information studies (BAIS). Faculty are located on two campuses, the main campus in Norman and at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa. Courses are delivered on site at both locations, via video and online. Position Description:
The School seeks a Director able to provide visionary and transformative leadership that fosters excellence in faculty research and teaching and to communicate effectively with the School’s internal and external constituencies. The Director of the School will demonstrate a collegial approach that supports faculty governance and the ability to work collaboratively with other units within the University.

The Director is responsible for the general administration and coordination of the School’s activities and reports to the Dean of Arts and Sciences. The Director promotes the School’s mission, represents the School to its various audiences, provides academic and professional leadership for a full-time faculty of 13, prepares budgets, and manages personnel and fiscal resources (including fundraising). A successful candidate will possess a strong record of scholarship and teaching, qualifying for a twelve-month academic appointment (to a four-year renewable term as director) with tenure at the rank of associate or full professor.

Requirements:
Requirements for the position include an earned doctorate in a field relevant to the mission of the School, demonstrated administrative experience in a university setting, experience in library/information science education, and a demonstrated commitment to distance education.

Lexington Fayette Urban County Government is the second-largest municipality in Kentucky and the 65th largest in the United States. Responsibilities. The Executive Director of the Lexington Public Library reports to a seven-member Board of Trustees—appointed by the Mayor of the Lexington Fayette Urban County Government and approved by the Urban County Council—and partners with LFUCG departments, state and federal officials, and civic/professional organizations and groups to achieve the Library’s mission and goals within the context of community needs and priorities. Overall responsibilities include: fostering effective internal and external communications; providing sound fiscal management, while strengthening current funding sources and seeking additional revenue sources; developing and implementing a strategic planning process to create a shared vision for library service and programming; and exploring and developing collaborative relationships with a variety of local, regional and statewide organizations and agencies. Minimum Qualifications. A master’s degree in library science (supplemented by coursework in management and administration) and a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible public library experience in a management position, including at least four years of executive level experience as director of a smaller library system, or deputy, assistant, or associate director of a comparable or larger system. Essential attributes include: personal integrity and excellent interpersonal skills; ability to address conflicting goals and build consensus; a thorough knowledge of financial management; collaboration and consensus-building skills; sensitivity, flexibility, and creativity; and a solid understanding of philosophy, trends and “best practices” in the library and information technology fields. Prior experience reporting to and working effectively with a governing board is highly desirable.

Compensation. The position offers a starting salary range of $105,000-120,000 (dependent upon experience and qualifications) with an excellent fringe benefits package.

ASSISTANT HEAD, ELECTRONIC RESOURCE MANAGEMENT

Reporting to the Head of the Resource Management Department in the Library’s Scholarly Resources Division, the Assistant Head is responsible for acquisition of all materials with special emphasis on electronic resources purchasing, licensing, access, and maintenance. The librarian in this position will bring to bear a broad and deep understanding of the complexities of acquisitions, electronic resource management and related technical services best practices; will be expected to provide leadership, innovation, and enthusiasm in charge of the work of the E-Resource Management unit; and will have responsibility for hiring, training, motivating, and evaluating staff, and for managing the priorities and day-to-day activities of the unit. The successful candidate will interact regularly with a range of the Library’s materials vendors (including publishers) to solve problems, while working closely with other units of the Department and the Division, as well as with other library departments, to support collection development, test new software, develop new systems, and move forward the Library’s ambitious digital program.

Qualifications
• ALA-accredited Master's degree in Library Science required; additional advanced degree desirable.
