Administrative Librarian: Head of Access Services

Job Description: The Alkek Library is seeking enthusiastic and forwarding-thinking applicants for the position of Head of Access Services. This position is responsible for the management and development of the Access Services Department which includes a staff of eleven Library Assistants. Service areas include circulation, stacks maintenance, reserves, and media/periodicals/microforms.

Required Qualifications: Master's degree from an ALA accredited library program; Minimum two years of professional experience; Evidence of progressively responsible experience; Effective managerial and supervisory experience; Problem-solving and decision-making skills; Ability to foster effective working relationships with library and academic colleagues; Ability to work in a team based environment and to collaborate effectively; Strong oral and written communication skills; Ability to provide leadership in adopting new technologies, space planning, and developing new services in a changing library environment; Experience with an integrated library system; Enthusiastic public services orientation; Working
knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel, reference related software, and the Internet.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience assessing library services; Project management (including change management) skills; Knowledge of library space planning/redesign in a Learning Commons environment; Knowledge of copyright law as it pertains to Reserves and AV materials; Experience designing websites or other gateways to collections and services, including Web 2.0 technologies; Knowledge of academic reference sources and trends in contemporary reference services; Knowledge of web content management systems such as Magnolia, Drupal, Joomla, etc.


Additional Information for Applicants: SALARY AND BENEFITS: $50,656 - $71,207 annually depending on assigned rank based on qualifications and experience. Available ranks include Associate Librarian, and Librarian. Advancement in rank is available through the Librarian Career Ladder. Benefits include monthly contribution to health insurance/benefits package and retirement program after initial ninety days of employment. No state or local income tax.
