Head of Collections Management

The University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Kraemer Family Library, is seeking a Head of Collections Management in the Technical Services Department. The Head of Collections Management leads, administers, and coordinates collection development activities and works with others to provide leadership of the cataloging and government documents unit and University Archives for the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, Kraemer Family Library. This tenured or tenure-track position directs the Library’s Collections Management operations including the selection, management, and acquisition of collections; develops and administers the Library’s materials budget; works closely with Library Systems in the assessment of the integrated library systems by focusing on strategies that maximize the latest technologies; and directly supervises 3 librarians, 1 exempt professional, and 1 classified staff person. As a member of the Library’s Leadership Team, the Collections Management Head participates in general administrative decision-making, library management, strategic planning, and priority setting. Director of the Research and Learning Services Department

Under the general direction of the Director of Olin and Uris Libraries, the Director of the Department of Research and Learning Services (R&LS) in Olin and Uris Libraries provides leadership, guidance, expertise, encouragement, and inspiration to a department whose mission is to enable and enhance the academic pursuits of Cornell faculty and students. 

The R&LS Department consists of 14 librarians, 7 staff members and a number of student workers. The department provides reference, instruction, collection development, outreach, and liaison services in the humanities and social sciences, using our research collections of electronic, print, map, and media resources. The primary user population comprises students, faculty and staff in the College of Arts and Sciences, but the department also serves the entire Cornell patron base in researching, teaching and learning in the humanities and social sciences.

The Director will play a critical role in charting the future directions of public services in Olin and Uris Libraries, as well as the entire Cornell University Library system and must therefore be an exceptional advocate for our current and anticipated future patron needs, versatile as a leader and manager, flexible in outlook, and an excellent team player.

Institutional Repository Services Librarian

The University of Virginia Library has a unique opportunity for an energetic and creative librarian to support the future growth and development of Libra, the University’s institutional repository. The person in this position will promote repository services to the university community through training and outreach activities, assist members of the university community with Libra deposit and access, and help determine strategic directions for Libra, ensuring that Libra services support current and future scholarship of the UVA community. Qualifications: Minimum Required
  • Master’s Degree in Library/Information Science or post-graduate degree in a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of relevant experience.

Required Skills
  • Strong working knowledge of institutional repository systems; specific knowledge of Fedora is a plus.
  • Basic working knowledge of copyright and fair use issues, open access publishing, trends in scholarly communication, and metadata standards for repositories.

Associate Director, Research Engagement & Health Sciences Partnerships

Job Overview:
The Associate Director, Research Engagement & Health Sciences Partnerships develops and implements a program of research support for the University's faculty and graduate students and leads the Libraries' partnership program in health sciences.   

The Libraries' program of Research Engagement will enhance and strengthen the University's research activities  through partnerships between librarians and researchers to discover, manage, analyze, and use information and avenues of scholarly communication.  The Associate Director will develop and lead libraries staff in building the program of Research Engagement. 

The Health Sciences Partnership program builds and maintains relationships and partnerships with key faculty and staff of the Drexel College of Medicine, the College of Nursing & Health Professions, and the School of Public Health.  The Associate Director leads a group of health sciences liaison librarians to embed information literacy and skill development into the curricula of health sciences and provide reference and research consulting. The Associate Director is the primary selector and collections manager for the health sciences resources.


  • Required qualifications:
  • M.S. in Library or Information Sciences from an ALA-accredited program
  • Minimum of five years of professional experience in a medical or health sciences library

Japanese Studies Librarian

The Washington University Libraries invites applications for the position of Japanese Studies Librarian.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Working in the East Asian Library and reporting to the East Asian Studies Librarian, the Japanese Studies Librarian is responsible for outreach, reference, instruction, and collection development and management for Japanese studies. This role includes selecting materials in all formats and languages on Japanese studies; developing and maintaining electronic resources and services; providing in-person and virtual reference, research consultation, and instructional services; planning and writing grant proposals for developing the Japanese collection; managing the gift and exchange program; serving as liaison to Japanese studies faculty and students; and performing original and adaptive cataloging of Japanese language materials. This position also has some responsibility for providing similar library services for the Korean Studies Program.

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: MLS degree from an ALA accredited school or equivalent relevant advanced degree. Fluent command of both written and spoken Japanese and English. Familiarity with scholarly trends in Japanese and East Asian studies. Knowledge of and/or experience with national cataloging rules and practices (AACR2, RDA, MARC21, LCSH, LC classification), including Romanization standards. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.

Preferred: Advanced academic work in Japanese studies. Knowledge of Japanese publishing industry, and electronic resources in Japanese studies. Be knowledgeable about and be able to educate and inform faculty, students, and campus administrators about scholarly communication trends and issues.
Working experience in an East Asian library or an academic library. Reading knowledge of Korean, and knowledge of trends in Korean scholarship and publishing.

Librarian for Nursing Research

Collections and Consortia Assessment Coordinator Research Services

The University of Texas at Austin Libraries invites applicants for The Collections and Consortia Assessment Coordinator. Primary responsibilities in this position are to provide leadership and direction on metadata and metadata practices for Utah State University Libraries in cooperation with a wide range of stakeholders. The Metadata Librarian will develop descriptive metadata schemas appropriate for diverse digital collections in collaboration with catalogers, archivists, and digital initiatives staff, and support and serve as a resource to colleagues on metadata issues and practices, defining data elements, recommending usage and determining mapping among metadata schemas and providing training as needed. The Metadata Librarian will network, collaborate and actively participate in local, regional, national, and/or international organizations contributing to discussions about the emerging and dynamic role of metadata in providing access to information resources and the development of resource discovery tools and services. The Metadata Librarian will help develop new approaches to describing and managing research data and other digital collections to support researchers in various disciplines (e.g., archiving large data sets) and will serve as a liaison between internal and external partners on collaborative metadata projects. The Metadata Librarian may serve as a subject librarian to an academic department.

Required qualifications: Masters of Library Science from an ALA-accredited program; working knowledge and experience with two or more metadata schemas and protocols such as Dublin Core, EAD, VRA Core, MODS, METS, etc.; experience selecting and applying controlled vocabularies and ontologies to digital library projects; cataloging experience, with knowledge of cataloging rules, standards, and controlled vocabularies; awareness of current issues and trends in metadata and digital library development; demonstrated ability to plan, coordinate, organize and lead projects; evidence of strong analytic and problem solving skills; excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to meet the university’s requirements for promotion and tenure. Preferred qualifications: Familiarity with data interchange standards, such as OAI-PMH; knowledge of discovery tools and metadata practices supporting discovery, specifically in a library context; knowledge of and experience with MARC; experience with ContentDM, bepress, DSpace, or similar digital management and repository systems; knowledge of latest practices related to digital identifiers; knowledge of preservation metadata schemas and practices; ability to work in a continually changing environment; ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a collegial, team-based environment and maintain positive working relationships; demonstrated ability to learn and implement appropriate new technologies and metadata schemas.

East Branch Manager

Fine and Performing Arts Librarian

Associate Director, Library Applications and Knowledge Systems

Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs/Executive Director Health Sciences and Human Services Library (HS/HSL), this newly created faculty position will provide leadership for the library’s applications, knowledge systems, and new and emerging technologies, integrating the resources, services and programs of the HS/HSL.  Working in a highly collaborative library and campus environment, the Associate Director for Library Applications and Knowledge Systems will manage 6.5 staff consisting of an internal library network administrator, web developers, support staff, and an instructional technology/design team.  This is a full-time, non-tenure track position at a rank of Librarian II or III.

  • Provide vision, oversight, and leadership for HS/HSL staff, public and classroom computing, the internal library network and computing infrastructure, web development, instructional/collaboration technology and facilities, and special knowledge-based projects.
  • Monitor and recommend new and emerging library applications and knowledge systems such as next generation library catalogs, aggregated discovery tools, research and collaboration systems, instructional technology, digital archives, and simulation and presentation labs and tools.
  • Consult with campus IT leadership on critical issues regarding the University of Maryland computing network and infrastructure to insure a cohesive, coherent, and unified approach. 
  • Collaborate with campus partners, diverse groups, teams, and committees to provide expertise ensure for informed decision-making regarding the technical infrastructure needed for HS/HSL to enable library-based campus projects such as the digital archive, knowledge informatics, data management metadata application and consultation, resource sharing, online teaching and learning, and discipline- and subject-based database development.
  • Plan and develop the knowledge infrastructure, tools, and digital resources that support the HS/HSL’s role in inter-professional education, collaboration, outreach, informatics, and translational science.

Our attractive facility, which opened in 1998, provides over 900 seats, 40 group study rooms, 130 individual study carrels, 60 public-access computers, wireless Internet access, 3 computer classrooms, a presentation and production studio, an art gallery, and multiple meeting spaces.

The Library supports the 6300 students, and over 7500 faculty and staff members on UMB's 60-acre research and technology complex consisting of 58 buildings including the University of Maryland BioPark, the University of Maryland Medical Center, and the VA Hospital. UMB's professional and graduate schools comprise a dental school, graduate school, and schools of law, medicine, nursing, pharmacy, public health and social work. SALARY RANGE:  $55,000-$80,000, commensurate with experience.
