The University Library seeks a motivated and experienced University Archivist. This tenure-track faculty position reports to the Head of Special Collections and University Archives. The University Archivist is responsible for archives management, including appraisal, selection and preservation of electronic records; access and preservation, public services and instruction.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1) M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent; 2) Professional experience in an archival/records management position; 3) Experience in the application of current archival standards for appraisal, selection, and description of archival records, including electronic formats; 4) Knowledge of and experience with identification and management of confidential and other sensitive records; 5) Effective interpersonal and written communication skills; 6) Demonstrated experience with relevant computer applications; 7) Ability to work with appropriate personnel to ensure transfer of historical records to the University Archives; 8) Ability to work in a collaborative environment; 9) Ability to work with a diverse population.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 1) Minimum of three years professional experience in archives/records management; 2) Concentration or certification in archival administration or records management; 3) Advanced degree in history or related field; 4) Teaching or public presentation experience. 5) Knowledge of the organizational structure, functions, and operations of a large and complex university system; 6) Experience with developing and implementing an electronic records program; 7) Experience with applying current standards of archival description (MARC21, DACS, EAD, etc.); 8) Knowledge of markup languages and Web page design; 9) Experience developing exhibits and public programs to promote archival holdings; 10) Supervisory and training experience, particularly in the areas of archival processing, description and Web design; 11) Experience providing reference and instructional services. ANTICIPATED STARTING DATE: February 15, 2008.
APPOINTMENT: This is a probationary, twelve-month, tenure-track position at the Senior Assistant rank, salary range $53, 412 - $67, 488 or Associate Librarian rank, salary range $61,416 - $85, 428, depending on qualifications. Librarians have full faculty status and excellent benefits. Library faculty must demonstrate professional competence, scholarly or creative achievement and service to the University and community to meet University requirements for tenure and promotion.
