Science Collection Management Librarian/Specialist

Wellesley College invites applications for the position of Science Collection Management Librarian/Specialist. This position offers the opportunity to work as the collection manager for the sciences and to provide library-wide leadership in the management of electronic resources.The Science Collection Management Librarian/Specialist selects, evaluates, and manages library resources in all formats to meet the curricular and research needs of students and faculty in all of the science disciplines(including psychology) taught at Wellesley. Maintains active liaison relationships with the science faculty to ensure that the library’s collections continually anticipate and support new directions in the curriculum. As a member of the electronic resources acquisitions team,devises efficient and responsive processes for acquiring digital resources and for maintaining and configuring them to maximize their utility. Leads the process for gathering and analyzing usage data for subscribed electronic journals and databases. Negotiates with vendors and publishers of commercially-produced resources on pricing and access terms; manages the expenditure of a collections budget. Monitors the changing patterns of scholarly communication and publishing in the sciences to assess their impact on the creation and delivery of information resources at Wellesley.Contributes to Information Service’s efforts to establish an institutional repository of locally-created digital assets through informational,promotional and collaborative outreach efforts to the science faculty.Works closely with consortium partners to coordinate collections and to expand the breadth of information resources and services that are available to students and faculty in the sciences. Serves as Wellesleys representative to the Boston Library Consortium’s (BLC) ChemistryLibrarians Community of Interest; maintains and monitors Wellesleys commitments in formal cooperative collection development agreements among the BLC’s science libraries.Based in the Science Library, the position is part of the newly-formed Information Resources group, which is charged with the overall responsibility for budgeting, selection, acquisition, and management of all general collections resources in all formats and in all library locations and for the provision of bibliographic access to these resources.Requirements: ALA-accredited M.S. in Library or Information Science, or significant graduate-level coursework toward an MLS, or equivalent education and experience (subject expertise combined with library experience). Undergraduate or advanced degree in the sciences, or equivalent education and experience. Three to five years experience in developing and assessing collections, developing working partnerships with academic departments and other campus communities, and understanding of the information needs of scientists. Experience in managing, licensing and trouble-shooting electronic resources. Experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc. preferred but not required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
