Library Director, Greenwich (CT) Library
Responsibilities. The Greenwich Library Director reports to the Board of Trustees and works closely with Town of Greenwich elected and appointed officials to establish a strategic vision for the Library that aligns its mission, goals and objectives with community needs and priorities. Overall responsibilities include: preparation of budgets and plans for submission to public and private funding sources; oversight and monitoring of all library operations, staff development and service initiatives; recommendation and implementation of Board policies and administrative procedures to carry out the Library’s service program; active promotion of the Library at local, state and national levels; support of the Board in its private fund raising activities; and direction and participation in monitoring approved construction projects. Qualifications. A master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program; and at least ten years of progressively responsible library experience, six years of which were in an administrative position managing professional staff and programs. Essential attributes include strong collaboration and consensus-building skills; vision and creativity; superior written and oral communications abilities; excellent interpersonal and team-building skills; political acumen and a history of responsiveness to staff, customer and community needs and concerns; an understanding of the role and potential of technology in the delivery of library services; and a thorough knowledge of budgetary planning and successful fiscal and personnel management. Successful leadership experience in a similar sized library and proven experience working with a policy-making board, collaborating with municipal officials and administering labor contracts is highly desirable.
Compensation. Starting salary range of $115,000 - 135,687 (placement dependent upon qualifications) and an excellent fringe benefits package.

Electronic Resources Librarian
Georgia State University Library recently completed a $20-million renovation of its main libraries, creating one of the most dynamic user spaces in the southeast. Responsibilities
The electronic resources librarian’s responsibilities will include: coordinating the purchase and licensing of all electronic materials; implementing and managing electronic resource management applications including SFX, MetaLib, Verde, and GALILEO Local Resources Integration; keeping abreast of developments in electronic resources; facilitating workflow and communication among the units responsible for acquiring, licensing, cataloging and maintaining access to e-resources; coordinating with subject liaisons to identify, research and evaluate electronic products and offers; collecting usage statistics and disseminating information to librarians for review on a regular basis, monitoring usage of e-resources; creating and maintaining statistical reports needed to manage electronic collections; performing administrative duties and participating in university and professional activities including research, publication, planning, procedure development and implementation, and policy and decision making processes for the department and library.
Requirements
ALA-accredited master’s degree in library science. Knowledge of issues associated with the acquisition and management of electronic resources. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated ability to work both independently and collaboratively. PREFERRED: Experience with the negotiation of licenses for electronic resources; knowledge of contemporary practices, issues and trends in the management of electronic resources; experience working in an integrated environment; supervisory experience.

The Bancroft Library of the University of California, Berkeley seeks an enthusiastic and collaborative professional librarian skilled in both collection-level and item-level cataloging to serve as Manuscripts Cataloger. This is a full-time, career-track appointment.
Responsibilities
Under the general direction of the Principal Cataloger, the incumbent serves as primary original cataloger of manuscripts and archival collections for The Bancroft Library and has direct responsibility for the creation and maintenance of all MARC 21 catalog records for manuscripts and archival collections, both at the item and collection levels. A member of the Cataloging Unit, the incumbent collaborates closely with all other units in the Bancroft Technical Services Department, especially Archival Processing and Acquisitions. The incumbent provides technical processing (accessioning, preservation, arrangement, and description) and serves as the library’s expert on descriptive standards for manuscripts and archival materials. The incumbent provides reference and instructional services to library users. The incumbent develops cataloging initiatives and standards related to manuscripts and collaborates with library and other Berkeley colleagues in cataloging projects, serving as the de facto campus-wide manuscripts cataloging expert, routinely consulting with other library units on the cataloging and processing of manuscript materials. The incumbent assists in the preparation of grant proposals and reports and participates in library-wide initiatives, task forces, and committees.
Qualifications
Work experience using national standards for archival description, such as Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS), Archives, Personal Papers, and Manuscripts (APPM), and Anglo-American Cataloguing Rules, 2nd Edition (AACR2), is a requirement of the position. The successful candidate will have demonstrated skills in original cataloging of a wide variety of manuscripts, knowledge of arrangement and description of archival materials, excellent written and oral communication skills, strong project management skills, and demonstrated proficiency at meeting goals and deadlines.
Required:
-Master’s Degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited institution, OR equivalent degree, with a specialization in archival studies.
-Minimum 1-2 years experience working with modern manuscripts with an emphasis on cataloging and processing.
-Demonstrated understanding of the principles of cataloging, arrangement, and description of manuscript and archival collections.
-Experience providing original MARC 21 cataloging of books and manuscripts using ACR2, LCSH, LC classification, DACS and/or APPM.

Reference & Instruction Librarians (Two Positions)
Our student population is mainly urban, ethnically diverse adult learners who take courses on one of three campuses or via an expanding online program. We are seeking librarians who are tech-savvy and service-oriented to work with a student population which primarily uses electronic library resources.
Salary is highly competitive and benefits are excellent. A full-time appointment consists of 168 duty days over two semesters. Additional summer session duty days are possible. Electronic Resources & Instruction Librarian
These are two tenure-track faculty positions which include extensive instruction and reference responsibilities in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment. Persons in these positions will be fluent in new information and communication technologies, especially Web 2.0 and similar library-related applications; be able to provide a high level of reference service; teach classes in the Library’s information literacy and curriculum-integrated instruction programs; and also be highly committed to providing client-centered services. The candidates will also be familiar with copyright and intellectual property issues.
Requirements: MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited institution and at least three years of reference library experience are required. Experience in an academic library is highly desirable. The candidates will possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication, and presentation skills. The candidates will also have the ability to interact and work with a diverse range of people including undergraduate students, graduate students, faculty, staff, and librarians; ability to work independently and in a team environment.
The successful candidates will demonstrate personal initiative in applying relevant technologies to teaching, learning, and instructional design. They will be able to meet changing user needs; to learn, to critically evaluate and to troubleshoot new technologies. The candidates will have the teaching skills necessary to create and deliver a wide range of information literacy initiatives; will collaborate and coordinate communication with Library administration and faculty; and have the research skills to work and collaborate with faculty to support their research and teaching initiatives. The candidates will have expertise in an online medium and have the vision to translate traditional library services into online media, including digital information and the management of knowledge.

Position: Head of Technical Services
Position Description: Reporting to the Marriott Library’s Associate Director for Scholarly Resources and Collections, the Head of Technical Services provides dynamic and innovative leadership for the evolving areas of acquisitions (both monographic and serial, in all formats) and metadata creation and management in the Marriott Library, the main library of the University of Utah. The HTS directly supervises the managers of the Monographs, Serials, MARC Metada and Digital Collections Metadata units, taking responsibility for the overall operational effectiveness and efficiency of those areas and establishing policies and procedures that anticipate the future directions of the scholarly communication marketplace, the priorities of the University of Utah, and the needs of the Libraries’ patrons. S/he will develop goals, policies, and workflows, foster staff development, and guide the division into an increasingly digital and patron-centered future.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Direct supervision of four unit managers.
- Administration of all Technical Services areas including monographic and serial acquisitions (including copy cataloging) and both MARC and non-MARC metadata creation.
- Participate in oversight and management of the acquisitions budget.
- Participate as a member of the Marriott Advisory Committee, and on other committees as assigned.
- Manage and serve as primary contact for the integrated library system.
- Work with Technical Services staff in the Quinney Law and Eccles Health Sciences libraries to coordinate policies and procedures and enhance consistency and cooperation between the two libraries.
- Oversee the hiring and training of new personnel as well as recommendations for retention, promotion, and salary raises.
- Ensure the documentation of policies and procedures of all aspects of the work done in Technical Services.
- Plan and coordinate departmental meetings and other means of departmental communication.
- Support and promote the libraries’ initiatives related to scholarly communication.
Qualifications:
- ALA-accredited MLS degree.
- 5-7 years of experience in one or (preferably) more library technical services areas.
Significant management experience, preferably including management of multiple departments/divisions. - Excellent supervisory, administrative, planning, analytic, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Understanding of technical services issues and workflows.
- Clear evidence of leadership, communication and collaborative ability.
- Demonstrated knowledge of AACRII, MARC, CONTENTdm and other relevant metadata protocols and systems.

The University of California, Berkeley seeks an experienced, innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented librarian to manage the international and area studies department, and provide vision and leadership for the Doe/Moffitt Libraries’ collection development infrastructure and initiatives.
Responsibilities
The Head of Research and Collections for International and Area Studies takes a leading role in shaping collections across the Doe/Moffitt Libraries. In partnership with colleagues in the Doe/Moffitt Libraries and the Associate University Librarian/Director of Collections the incumbent plans, evaluates and coordinates Doe/Moffitt Libraries’ collection development activities, policies, and collaborative initiatives. The Head provides vision and guidance to assist selectors in the Doe/Moffitt Libraries who negotiate and manage cooperative collection agreements, advise on preservation decisions, promote digitization projects, and are called upon to pursue extramural funding through grant writing and development activities.
As a significant contribution to supporting current and future research needs of Berkeley faculty, graduate students and undergraduate students across all disciplines, the incumbent collaborates with a broad range of library staff to coordinate the ongoing selection of items from the Gardner (MAIN) Stacks, which houses two million circulating and non-circulating volumes in more than 200 languages, for off-site shelving at the Northern Regional Library Facility which is shared with other UC campuses.
This position manages a department of 15 librarians and library assistants with responsibility for collections, instruction, reference, and academic outreach to international and area studies programs. Staff in this department cultivate and sustain collaborations with academic departments, interdisciplinary programs, institutes, and centers (many receiving US Government Title VI funding) focused on regions including Africa, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Middle East, Near East, South Asia, Southeast Asia and Latin America. These staff also oversee public services and technical services processing for the South/Southeast Asia Library, the Newspapers & Microforms Library, and the Current Periodicals collection. The Head contributes to instruction and reference, and may assume liaison roles and collection development assignments as opportunities arise.
The Head is a member of the senior management team of Doe/Moffitt Libraries -- with the department heads of Circulation Services, Instruction and User Services, Interlibrary Services, and Research and Collections for Humanities and Social Sciences -- and reports directly to the Associate University Librarian for Educational Initiatives and Director of the Doe/Moffitt Libraries. Undergraduate Student Programs Librarian
Responsibilities
Reporting to the Assistant Head for Instructional Services, the Undergraduate Student Programs Librarian is appointed one of two liaisons to the University College. The Undergraduate Student Programs Librarian identifies and meets the needs of students learning advanced research skills and is responsible for integrating those skills into Tiers 2 and 3 of the University College Core Curriculum. Together, the Librarian and the First Year Student Programs Librarian will develop an integrated suite of programs and learning tools that dovetail with the progression of the undergraduate curriculum and will ensure the full participation of the library in the campus life programs of the University. The Undergraduate Student Programs Librarian partners with library liaisons in RIS and academic departments to integrate advanced research skills into the undergraduate curriculum across disciplines. The Librarian is also appointed liaison to the Honors College and develops instructional programs in support of the curriculum as well as the Summer Undergraduate Honors Research Program and the Summer Freshman Research Institute. He or she will oversee the work of the Cabell Library Undergraduate Advisory Committee. The incumbent will be an active member of the library’s education and outreach programs, teaching introductory sessions, course-integrated instruction and workshops; developing course content and instructing students in the classroom; leading tours and staffing outreach and orientation events. The Undergraduate Student Programs Librarian also participates in the provision of reference services, including some evenings and weekends. The Undergraduate Student Programs Librarian is expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. Faculty with the VCU Libraries are evaluated, and promoted, on the basis of job performance, scholarship, and professional development and service.
Qualifications
Required: ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in a related discipline. Preferred: Experience working with undergraduate students in an academic research library setting. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and undergraduate education. Demonstrated success in the application of technology to support student learning and familiarity with Web authoring tools and standards. Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment and a preference for group work. Evidence of project management skills and the ability to plan and implement programs. Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.. Academic reference and instruction experience in a research library. Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities under pressure. Strong service orientation. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment highly preferred.
