Coordinator of Technical Services
Kemp Library, East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania is seeking a librarian for the position of Coordinator of Technical Services to coordinate the cataloging, the systems, and the technical services aspects of library acquisitions. This is a full time, continuing tenure track faculty position beginning in January 2014 and reports directly to the Library Dean. Positions typically fill at the Instructor or Assistant Professor level, commensurate with experience and training.
Responsibilities: The Coordinator of Technical Services establishes goals and objectives, does short and long range planning, and is responsible for administering the daily operations of the Technical Services area. The coordinator is responsible for cataloging, systems, and acquisitions activities of the library and for the oversight of library employees engaged in those operations. The librarian holding this position also performs general reference, instructional, and user service responsibilities and serves as liaison to several departments as needed. Required Qualifications Masters of Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited program; professional library experience in the technical services area and demonstrated potential for scholarly achievement.
Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated ability to perform original and copy cataloging of multiple formats preferably in an academic or research library; Strong working knowledge of and practical experience with current cataloging rules, standards, bibliographic tools and metadata schema; Familiarity with current and emerging trends, standards and technologies in cataloging; Experience using and managing integrated library systems including its various modules, e.g. acquisitions, and familiarity with bibliographic utilities; Strong technology background and web authoring skills; Second master’s degree; Demonstrated ability to work within a consultative team environment where collaboration and cooperation are essential; Evidence of effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; Ability to work independently; Ability to supervise and train staff; Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
