Grand Valley State University Libraries seek a service-oriented, energetic, innovative and self-motivated librarian for a full-time, 12-month tenure-track reference and instruction position. Duties include serving as a liaison to University programs in the natural sciences (or legal studies/criminal justice), library instruction, reference service (traditional and online), and collection development in liaison areas. Information, consultation, and instruction services are tailored to the needs of students and faculty in liaison departments. The successful candidate will participate in creating collection development policies for assigned areas, contribute to the establishment of a library-wide scholarly communications program, and assist in the development of instruction, reference and liaison services.
Librarians are full members of the university faculty and are expected to engage in scholarship and professional development, service to the institution, and institutional governance. This position is located at GVSU’s Allendale, MI campus.
Required qualifications: An ALA-accredited master's degree in library or information science. Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills. Knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in academic libraries, especially in the areas of reference, instruction, information literacy and scholarly communications. The ability to work collaboratively and independently within a dynamic organization. The ability to work evening and weekend hours, as required.
Preferred qualifications: Experience performing reference and instruction in an academic environment; collection development experience; experience collaborating with faculty; knowledge of print and electronic library resources in the sciences and an interest in collaborating with and meeting the needs of programs in the sciences.
