Assistant University Librarian for Administration and Policy Development

The Virginia Commonwealth University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Assistant University Librarian for Administration and Policy Development. Reporting to the University Librarian, the successful candidate will participate with the VCU Libraries’ senior administrative leadership in overall management of VCU’s library system at a time of exciting growth for VCU and the VCU Libraries, and will join a culturally and academically diverse faculty of the highest caliber.

Responsibilities: Oversee the VCU Libraries’ business office, personnel office, buildings and facilities operations (including mail delivery, contract services for housekeeping, and related areas), and security operations. Organize policy development by identifying issues that require policy guidance and working with staff on all VCU campuses to coordinate policies. Work closely with the University Librarian in developing budget projections and investment plans; help identify optimal personnel and organizational configurations for the VCU Libraries. Work closely with 4 other colleagues on the senior administrative team to oversee all aspects of decision-making and operations for the VCU Libraries system. Occasionally act as senior administrator for the VCU Libraries in the absence of the University Librarian.

Qualifications: ALA-accredited graduate or equivalent accredited degree in a relevant academic discipline. At least 5 years experience in increasingly responsible administrative and management positions. Preferred: Substantial experience with administration and management in an academic research library. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment highly preferred.

Salary: $80,000 minimum annually. This is a full-time, non-tenured faculty position with regular faculty benefits, including 24 vacation days annually and a choice of retirement and annuity plans.
