Job Description
Full-time, tenure-track Instructor or Assistant Professor Position with nine-month contract, with possible summer employment, available beginning August 2009. Highly competitive salary. Provide leadership in scientific research instruction, reference, and collection development, programs, activities, and services.

Provide leadership in Library Department decisions regarding issues in scholarly scientific communication. Serve as liaison to science departments on campus. Library faculty are full members of university faculty with all rights and responsibilities of other faculty members including eligibility for promotion and sabbatical leaves. Library faculty members are expected to engage in scholarship and professional development, service to the institution, and institutional governance. The incumbent, as part of tenure requirement, must have completed 30 credit hours toward a second graduate degree within five years. Millersville University is one of 14 institutions of the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education.

Required: American Library Association accredited master’s degree. Subject specialty in science. Evidence of: strong commitment to and knowledge of current trends and issues in reference and information services; clear understanding of public services function; professional initiative and flexibility; commitment to student learning commensurate with the university’s strong instructional mission. Experience providing reference service, library instruction, and/or teaching. Experience with internet and electronic information resources. Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices and current trends in provision of information services. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in project-oriented teams. Successful campus interview and teaching demonstration.Preferred: Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in changing library and university environment. Collection development in a library setting. Second masters or doctorate degree in the sciences or another relevant field.
