Information Services Librarian

GENERAL INFORMATION

The University of Southern California (USC) Norris Medical Library seeks an energetic, innovative, service-oriented individual for a reference librarian position. The Norris Medical Library is an academic research library serving the Schools and Departments of Medicine, Pharmacy, Occupational and Physical Therapy. The library has a strong emphasis on providing access to a wide variety of electronic information resources, and educating faculty, students, and staff through seminars on Internet resources, presentation software, database searching, evidence-based health care, personal digital assistants, and bibliographic management. RESPONSIBILITIES

· Participate in all reference and information services, including reference desk, consultation services, performing online searches, assisting users to develop search strategies, and answering online reference questions. Share responsibility for updating library web pages.
· Participate in an extensive program for user education with emphasis on developing course content and materials for providing instruction in computer-based information systems, the Internet, and the use of library resources. Provide curriculum-based class instruction in informatics and evidence-based medicine for medical and other health sciences students and grading student assignments.
· Participate in library’s liaison program by promoting information resources and library services and initiating new programs for those in the clinical setting.
· Take part in special projects, e.g., the promotion of personal digital assistants among health care professionals; the development of web tutorials and educational modules to expand our educational program to on-demand instruction.

QUALIFICATIONS MLS from an ALA-accredited library school. Strong oral and written communication and computer skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively with culturally diverse library users and adult learners. Demonstrated creativity and initiative. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

SALARY/STATUS Beginning salary between $48,500 - $54,500 depending on experience. This position is in a continuing-appointment track, the USC Libraries equivalent to tenure.
