Editor and Publisher, Choice Magazine

CHOICE Magazine (http://www.ala.org/acrl/choice/), a specialized and internationally recognized scholarly publishing enterprise of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL), a division of the American Library Association (ALA) is seeking an experienced Editor & Publisher to lead its operations.   CHOICE is the premier source for reviews of academic books, electronic media, and internet resources in higher education. The Editor and Publisher will provide ongoing strategic direction for the editorial, marketing, advertising and production of a suite of print and digital products.  The Editor and Publisher manages a staff of 22; creates a multi-million dollar operating budget and is manager of the ACRL/ALA office located in Middletown, CT.   This position reports to the Executive Director, ACRL, who is based in the ALA’s Chicago headquarters.

The Editor and Publisher directs the development and implementation of a long-term business strategy to maintain CHOICE’s competitive position in the higher education  marketplace and ensure ongoing fiscal sustainability. This includes new product development, reenvisioning existing products, and the forging of new partnerships to maximize revenue generation through new and existing revenue streams such as subscriptions, licenses, product sales, and advertising.

Requirements:  Minimum of 15 years in publishing with 3 to 5 years of management experience in both print and online publishing.  An advanced degree in business is preferred. Must have knowledge of current trends in scholarly publishing, practices, standards, business models and technologies.    Strong communications skills with proven writing and public speaking experience Knowledge of/familiarity with academic libraries a plus. 

Must be able to foster a team environment, build relationships and work collaboratively with staff, faculty, publishers, administrators, members, media and vendors.  Knowledge of subscriptions, licensing, advertising, sales and marketing, product development, and budgeting/financial management.Salary:  Negotiable from $95,000, based on experience.
