Tenure Track Faculty Position


The EWU Libraries at Eastern Washington University invites applications for a tenure track faculty position to begin in 2013. Position is available as of July 1st, 2013, or other date as negotiated.

This position is an 11-month tenure-track library faculty appointment to perform professional responsibilities in librarianship, scholarship, and service. Responsibilities in librarianship will focus on reference and instruction activities at the Riverpoint Campus Library, with liaison responsibilities to the College of Business and Public Administration.

Position Responsibilities:

o Serves as the subject specialist for management, accounting, economics, finance, marketing, management information systems, health services administration, public administration, and urban and regional planning.

o Delivers instruction in the use of information resources supporting programs in the College of Business and Public Administration (CBPA) programs on the Riverpoint and Cheney campuses and at other EWU sites as requested. Prepares user guides and training materials for business and public administration. Supports library and CBPA initiatives related to educational technologies and online and distance learning.

o Serves as liaison librarian to CBPA faculty. Assists faculty in developing library assignments that contribute to student learning outcomes for their programs. Promotes awareness of library services and programs to the departments. Contributes to the overall provision of library services in cooperation with other liaison librarians.

o Provides specialized business and public administration reference on demand. Provides general assistance to all library patrons at the reference desk and online as scheduled. Schedule is likely to include evenings due to the predominance of CBPA evening classes at Riverpoint. Schedule may include weekends.

o Actively engages with EWU faculty and students to identify and meet their information needs in an evolving information environment.

o Demonstrates a strong commitment to service and instruction.

o Participates in library committees and working groups. Collaborates with colleagues and clients across the university and the region. Participates in providing library services to members of the Washington State University community at the shared Riverpoint campus.

Minimum Qualifications:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS LIBRARIAN II:

o MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution.

o At least three years of successful post-MLS/MLIS professional library experience gained within the past ten years.

o Ability to meet tenure requirements as outlined in the Library Plan (http://www.ewu.edu/Documents/Library/TheLibraryPlan%202000-2005.pdf).

o Demonstrated high level of written and oral communication, organizational, problem-solving and planning skills. Ability to collaborate effectively.

o Mastery of technologies relevant to providing library services, including Microsoft Office applications in a Windows environment.

o Demonstrated ability to adapt to rapidly changing environments and technologies.

o Demonstrated knowledge of library resources for business research.

o Demonstrated reference and instruction skills, and the ability to use the Internet and Web-based resources effectively.

o Additionally, candidates must demonstrate interest, experience and/or ability to promote cultural competency and/or diversity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPOINTMENT AS LIBRARIAN III:

Candidates must meet all of the qualifications listed herein for Librarian II. Additionally, candidates must also offer additional qualifications that match one of the two options listed below:

(a) A second master's degree or the doctorate in librarianship or equivalent degree *and* at least six years or more of successful professional experience.

OR

(b) Candidates who lack the second master's degree or the doctorate in librarianship or equivalent degree, shall have at least nine years of successful professional experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
o Business library experience or a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in a CBPA-related field.

o A record of obtaining external funding.
