Director of Collections and Scholarly Communications

Basic Functions:
Reporting to the University Librarian, manages collection development and collection management functions and provides leadership for campus scholarly communications activities, including: development of policies and procedures, coordination of the activities of liaison librarians related to collection development, negotiation of license agreements, assessment of the collections, and serving as primary contact for collections activities carried out through consortia. Facilitates and provides guidance to the campus in addressing scholarly communications issues, including copyright and open access. Provides liaison services, including instruction in the use of library resources.

Qualifications:
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited library school or its equivalent; at least three years of relevant post-MLS experience in an academic or research library, library network or consortium, showing progressive responsibility in the area of collection development, including management of materials budgets, vendor contacts and liaison with academic departments, knowledge of collection development issues and trends, especially relating to electronic resources; ability to work within a collaborative instructional services environment; excellent analytical, organizational, and oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of current trends, issues and best practices in the area of scholarly communications, including copyright and open access. Desirable: Experience in reference and instruction, J.D. degree in addition to the MLS.
