Reference and Instruction Librarian

Rollins College is looking for an enthusiastic and service-oriented Reference and Instruction Librarian whose primary liaison duties will be to support the Science disciplines. This is a tenure track faculty position, and the successful candidate is expected to be appointed as an assistant professor. Primary responsibilities: The successful candidate will participate in a broad range of user services, including general and specialized reference service in traditional and digital environments, active participation in course related instruction, collection development, and liaison responsibilities with the teaching faculty in the departments of Biology, Mathematics, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, and Physics. The successful candidate will participate in library-wide projects and activities, develop research guides and online tools, serve on library and campus committees, and promote information literacy initiatives.

Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited library school or an equivalent degree is required. Preferred qualifications include reference and instruction experience at an academic library, and an educational background or work experience that indicates an ability to partner with and support students and faculty in the science disciplines.

The successful candidate will demonstrate most if not all of the following knowledge, skills, and abilities: Enthusiasm for teaching and experience with information literacy instruction with groups and individuals; Ability to communicate well orally and in writing; ability to interact with the public effectively and courteously; Interest in and understanding of diversity issues; Ability to work in a team environment and independently; An appreciation for the liberal arts and the role of the library in higher education; Skills in the use of a variety of computer software used in the library; demonstrated knowledge and experience with electronic and web-based reference resources; Ability to deal with and lead change in a rapidly developing library environment; and the potential to present, publish, or otherwise contribute to the library profession.
