The Web Services Librarian is a key faculty member in the Library and Academic Technology Services (LATS) organization. The successful candidate will provide leadership in the development and operation of our web presence. The Web Services Librarian will help the organization evolve its services to determine which emerging Web technologies can better serve student and faculty research needs.
Duties
The duties and responsibilities of this position include:
- creating and modifying web pages using html editors and our content management system
- maintenance and development of the web interface to the library’s Innovative Interfaces web opac
- collaborate with LATS technologists to apply principles of usability and accessibility to develop and improve the functionality and features across entire web presence
- providing web publishing support in a distributed authorship environment
- collaborating on the establishment and enforcement of web standards and style
guiding and implementing design for graphics, page layout, and site navigation - providing reference service approximately four hours per week at a general reference desk
- serving as the library’s subject specialist and liaison for assigned disciplines (to be determined based on candidate’s academic preparation and experience and organizational needs)
- conducting library instruction for classes in assigned disciplines; conducting general library outreach and instruction sessions when needed
- engaging in library and university governance and scholarship, including research and publication
Qualifications
Required:
· Masters degree from an American Library Association-accredited institution by the date of appointment
· substantial experience with online communication and with writing for the web medium
· experience in markup languages such as Javascript, CSS, XML; experience with HTML editors
· experience working collaboratively with college/university faculty, staff, and students
· effective organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
· ability to communicate with/relate to an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community
· the ability to fulfill the scholarly and service expectations of a tenure-track position
Desired:
- experience administering a web content management system
- experience in managing authentication of library web based resources
- experience with Innovative Interfaces, Inc. web opac product
- familiarity with copyright regulations and their application in an academic environment
- ability to work both independently and as a team member on a variety of simultaneous projects
- understanding of the implications of the Americans with Disabilities Act on the presentation of web content
- familiarity with the integration of library services into course management systems (e.g. BlackBoard)
- ability to function as a generalist in a cooperative, general reference environment
- proficiency in using and teaching print and electronic information resources
- ability to evaluate, select, and review information resources in relation to curricular needs
- manifestation of a commitment to service excellence
- record of significant involvement in library and/or technology-related professional organizations
- ability to flourish in a rapidly changing environment

· a copy of the official transcript from the university awarding the library Masters degree (a photocopy is acceptable until the official transcript can be provided)

This is a full-time tenure track faculty position. CSULB librarians are represented by the California Faculty Association, a CTA/NEA and AAUP affiliate. The University provides comprehensive benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance, sick leave and vacation. A ten-month work year is negotiable.
Salary Range
Associate Librarian or Librarian (12 month)
$64,320 – $98,316
