Digital Learning Initiatives Librarians

In support of further growth in this area, York University Libraries are seeking an innovative and energetic librarian for the position of Digital Services Librarian in Bibliographic Services. The Digital Services Librarian will join a dynamic and growing team of digital professionals including the Digital Humanities Librarian, Digital Initiatives Librarian, Digital Projects and Outreach Archivist, Web Librarian, E-Learning Librarian and GIS Librarian.  This is an 18-month contractually limited appointment with the possibility of extension.  The Digital Services Librarian will play an integral role in supporting and developing digital initiatives within York University Libraries. Demonstrating excellent project management skills, the successful candidate will support the creation of digital collections at York University by collaborating with Archives and Special Collections, Library Computing Services and the Digital Initiatives Advisory Group to promote, plan, implement, support, and evaluate digital projects within the Libraries.  Associated responsibilities may also involve the hiring, training, and supervision of supporting staff. A significant component of this position involves advocating for and supporting the Library’s scholarly communications initiatives including serving on the Scholarly Communications Committee, liaising with the York community, administering the institutional repository YorkSpace, and supporting the digital journal hosting program York Digital Journals. Comfort with troubleshooting software challenges and providing project-related technical support will be required. Collaborating with colleagues, the incumbent will ensure that appropriate digital and metadata standards and procedures are established and followed. The Digital Services Librarian will be a member of the Digital Initiatives Advisory Group.  Some original and complex copy cataloguing may be required.

Qualifications:
  • MLS (or recognized equivalent) from an ALA-accredited program;
  • experience planning and implementing digitization projects or other complex digital library projects;
  • demonstrated experience with SGML/XML, metadata standards and schema;  
  • demonstrated initiative, service-oriented attitude, and project management skills;
  • knowledge of emerging trends in digital collections, scholarly communications, and in library and information technologies;
  • excellent software troubleshooting abilities and comfort with UNIX environments;
  • past programming experience an asset;
  • excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work independently and in collaboration with others;
  • flexible attitude and ability to adapt to a changing environment; ability to balance multiple responsibilities; demonstrated time management skills;
  • willingness to undertake library and university committee responsibilities, professional development, research and scholarship.


This is an 18- month contractually limited appointment with the designation of Adjunct Librarian and appropriate for a librarian with up to nine years post-MLS experience.  The position is available from March 1, 2012.   Librarians at York University have academic status and are members of the York University Faculty Association bargaining unit (http://www.yufa.org/). White Library of Spring Arbor University seeks a service-oriented librarian to fill a newly redesigned position.  Reporting to the Library Director, this eleven month, tenure-track position will require collaboration with other library units to create, implement, and promote services for off-campus learners who attend SAU centers throughout Michigan or are enrolled in SAUonline programs.  This position will work with the Education and Reference Librarians to coordinate reference, instruction, and information literacy assistance to off-campus students and faculty, and will integrate technologies such as social networking, virtual reference, mobile technologies, and other Web 2.0 applications to support instructional and research activities for remote learners. This position is involved with the campus Open Access initiatives and assists the Director in communicating the value of open access publishing, assisting faculty in e-publishing initiatives and developing the university’s strategies for distribution and curation of research.

The Assistant Director of Libraries for User and Research Services has a role in fostering positive and productive relationships with campus faculty, staff, and students, as well as with donors.  The responsibilities of this position are wide- ranging and demand a high degree of professionalism, including representing the library in a positive light to campus and community representatives. The position is part of the Library's senior management team (Executive Leadership Council). This position reports to the Director of Libraries.  


Qualifications

Digital Production Unit (DPU) Supervisor



The Oregon State University Libraries invites applications for the Digital Production Unit (DPU) Supervisor. Reporting to the Head of the Center for Digital Scholarship and Services, the Digital Production Unit Supervisor plays a central role in developing services and guidelines in support of digitization activities at Oregon State University. This is a key management position at OSU Libraries in an innovative and team-oriented environment.

The incumbent uses his/her knowledge of current and emerging trends to oversee the digitization of analog materials including books and serials, photographs, manuscripts and audio-visual resources. The incumbent manages daily operations related to scanning, OCR and digital preservation, and supervises 4 FTE classified staff, interns and 4-6 student workers engaged in these activities. The incumbent seeks, organizes and maintains copyright permissions for items that are to be digitized. The position works closely with the Digital Scholarship Librarian (ScholarsArchive@OSU repository manager), the Metadata Librarian (CONTENTdm digital asset management administrator), and the OSU Press to develop processes and workflows that support the scanning, availability, and use of digital resources.

This position will perform professional responsibilities in librarianship, scholarship, and service. - Provides specialized science and/or engineering reference on demand. Provides general assistance to all library patrons at the reference desk and online as scheduled. May be scheduled to work weekends or evenings. May participate in instruction in the English Composition Program.

- Actively engages with the EWU faculty and students to identify and meet their information needs in an evolving information environment.

- Ability to travel to campus locations for distance education programs.

- Demonstrates a strong commitment to service and instruction.

- Provides leadership in the discovery and implementation of emerging technologies in the delivery of library services. Supports and trains staff in experimenting with technologies and techniques to improve library services and programs. Participates with the ongoing development of the library's website.
