Librarian, Online and Distance Learning - Faculty Position

The Hugh A. and Edna C. White Library of Spring Arbor University seeks a service-oriented librarian to fill a newly redesigned position.  Reporting to the Library Director, this eleven month, tenure-track position will require collaboration with other library units to create, implement, and promote services for off-campus learners who attend SAU centers throughout Michigan or are enrolled in SAUonline programs.  This position will work with the Education and Reference Librarians to coordinate reference, instruction, and information literacy assistance to off-campus students and faculty, and will integrate technologies such as social networking, virtual reference, mobile technologies, and other Web 2.0 applications to support instructional and research activities for remote learners. Important facets of this position include the marketing of existing and newly created services and the assessment of these services for continuous improvement. The position includes collection development and faculty liaison responsibilities in assigned areas and some evening and occasional Saturday reference duty.

Qualified candidates should have an MLS degree or equivalent from ALA-accredited library school. Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills, including demonstrated competence with Microsoft Office. Familiarity with integrated library systems and library databases.  Willingness to travel to off-campus sites and to work a flexible schedule as required. Experience in marketing, delivering, and assessing instruction and reference services in a distance learning environment preferred.
