Metadata and Digital Curation Librarian

Grand Valley State University Libraries seeks an energetic, innovative and self-motivated Librarian for the position of Metadata and Digital Curation Librarian. The individual in this new position will provide leadership and guidance in the development and implementation of data management strategies that will support discovery, access, management, and preservation of the Libraries' and University's physical and digital assets and resources

Primary Responsibilities:


Advise all metadata creation activities throughout the libraries and selects, designs, adapts and maintains appropriate metadata schemas, controlled vocabularies and data dictionaries to facilitate access to resources in the libraries' catalog, digital collections and institutional repository; Track developments in metadata schemas and lead the ongoing development and implementation of metadata standards and best practices within the libraries and across the university; Assist in setting policies, priorities and practices for the production, management and preservation of digital content; Supports archival, e-records management and scholarly communication programs; Provide consultative support and expertise to GVSU faculty and academic units on research projects to address their data management needs, including the development of data management plans; Assess user needs and keep abreast of evolving metadata standards in order to develop appropriate descriptive, structural and administrative metadata schema for complex heterogeneous collections.

Salary, Rank and Benefits:
Salary ranges are commensurate with experience. Depending on qualifications, appointment will be at the Assistant or Associate Librarian rank (12-month, tenure-track). GVSU employees enjoy a comprehensive benefit package, including support for professional development.
