About the job

Reporting to the Head of the Information and Research Services Division, the Government Documents Librarian provides leadership and coordination for the access, use, and awareness of state and federal government documents collections and services. This includes liaising with the U.S. Government Printing Office and guiding federal depository library services in the state of Montana.
               
This is a tenure track faculty position with a twelve month appointment.

Primary Functions of the Position

·         Provides outreach to and state coordination of federal document collections in Montana libraries through service to selective depository libraries in the state in the form of training, state planning, and guidance on depository management issues
·         Remains conversant in GPO policy to ensure compliance with Federal Depository Library Program participation requirements and coordinates with GPO and other federal depository libraries to improve collections and services
·          Provides leadership in promoting user awareness of and access to government information
·         Provides specialized reference and instruction in the use of government documents through maintaining expertise in government publications and data and through the development of instructional tools, teaching sessions, and other guidance
·         Develops and manages the state and federal government documents collections through current and retrospective collections of tangible and digital information
·         Sets the retrospective cataloging priorities for the federal documents collection
·         Coordinates and provides guidance for government documents projects (pertaining to cataloging, weeding, digitization, etc.)
·         Manages the non-Montana maps collection and provides input on Montana maps produced by the federal government
·         Subject liaison duties may be required in support of information literacy and collection development for an academic discipline.
  • Active engagement in research and service in accordance with the unit standards for the Mansfield Library


Required:
·         ALA-accredited MLS in library or information science by date of hire.
·         Experience working with and/or coursework with government documents, using both traditional/print and electronic government information resources.
·         Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
·         Excellent interpersonal communication, presentation, organization, and time management skills.
·         Demonstrated skills in use of current technologies as they relate to library services.
·          Demonstrated ability to coordinate projects effectively, including organization, prioritization and goal-setting skills.
·         Demonstrated ability to work individually and collaboratively in a team environment.
·         Demonstrated commitment to user-focused services.
·         Ability to manage multiple responsibilities in a rapidly changing environment.
·         Ability to meet standards for achieving tenure and promotion.

Preferred:
·         Conversant with emerging issues related to teaching, instructional design, learning technologies, and information literacy standards for higher education.
·         Experience with or knowledge of best practices for digitization and electronic resource acquisition and management.





Minimum Salary:  $44,815
Desired Start Date:  August 1, 2011 (negotiable)
