Position: Head of Technical Services
Reports to: Dean of Libraries

Marquette University, Raynor Memorial Libraries seek an innovative and dynamic librarian with strong leadership and managerial skills for the position of Head of Technical Services which is comprised of the newly merged Acquisitions, Cataloging and Serials Departments. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, this position sets strategic direction for acquisitions, cataloging, metadata creation, authority control, database maintenance and physical processing of all library materials including digital resources; manages a department of seven librarians (direct supervision) and fourteen support staff; responds to and anticipates user needs; plans for future activities and projects in accordance with new developments in resource discovery; serves as a member of Leadership Council, and collaborates with colleagues in library-wide planning, budgeting and policy development.

Marquette University is an independent, Catholic, Jesuit doctoral-granting institution with an enrollment of 12,000 located near downtown Milwaukee. Qualifications:
  • Masters' degree in Library and Information Science from an ALA accredited library school
  • A minimum five years of managerial experience in technical services in an academic or research library
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Knowledge of standards, trends, and best practices in technical services
  • Experience supervising full time staff
  • Knowledge of new library technologies and experience with integrated library system technical services modules
  • Evidence of utilizing innovative approaches to workflow design
  • Ability to interact effectively with a broad range of staff within the Library, the University and in collaborative initiatives with other institutions
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and listening skills
  • Commitment to diversity
  • Record of professional activity in areas related to position responsibilities

Preferred:

  • Experience managing digital projects


Appointment will be made at the Associate or full Librarian rank.
