Subject Specialist – Youth Services Collection Development

St. Louis Public Library has an opening for a Subject Specialist – Youth Services Collection Development. Candidates must have a MLS degree from ALA accredited library school and 3 years library experience that includes youth services and public libraries.

The Youth Services Collection Development Specialist oversees youth collections at all locations of the St. Louis Public Library. Participates as a team member in Technical Services and Youth Services to carry out goals of the St. Louis Public Library.

The person filling this position must have demonstrated knowledge of Youth Services with emphasis on library materials for children and teens. Must be sensitive to programs, interests, and developmental needs of children and teens, taking into consideration the unique demographics of St. Louis. Will work effectively with the Youth Services Steering committee to allocate funds. Will make selections for newly published titles to update collections in a timely manner. Position requires the ability to communicate with staff on collection maintenance and train selectors in vendor tools. Will write articles and bibliographies to promote youth sources and materials for Library publications. Must be able to monitor youth materials funds and track spending. Experience working with diverse populations is a plus.
