Senior Subject Specialist


 
St. Louis Public Library has an opening for a Sr. Subject Specialist.  Candidates must have an MLS from ALA accredited library school and at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in archives, rare books and manuscripts, or special collections.  The person filling this position will be responsible for the acquisitions, processing, finding aids, conservation and preservation of the materials in the Special Collections Department.  Will also be responsible for the St. Louis Room, opening with the renovation of Central Library, which will be a combination of the St. Louis Area Studies Center, St. Louis Information Center and other St. Louis related materials from various collections in Central Library.  Will supervise 3 fulltime employees and also work closely with the Manager of Electronic Collections in the digitization and description of significant parts of the collection.  Must be able to plan, develop, and execute exhibits and programs related to collections.  Will be responsible for community outreach and the development of partnerships that benefit the St. Louis Public Library.

Albertsons Library, Boise State University, invites applications for a full-time 12-month, tenure-track Access Services Librarian/Assistant or Associate Professor position. Access Services includes the areas of: circulation, reserves, document delivery, stacks maintenance, and facilities management. This experienced and innovative librarian works independently, and with other unit managers, to explore new models of access, incorporate emerging technology, analyze workflows, and provide services that are responsive to the information needs of the University in a fast paced and rapidly changing environment. The Access Services Librarian reports to the Associate Dean.

Responsibilities include:
·         coordinating, communicating, and serving as primary source of information to patrons and staff regarding access services policies and procedures
·         developing close working relationships with the campus community to ensure prompt and efficient access to the Library's services and resources
·         designing innovative outreach activities to advance the positive public image of the Library;
·         managing daily unit operations
·         participating in complex projects in a team environment in alignment with Library and University goals
·         supervising up to 8 staff and 45 student assistants
·         strategically plans and oversees the use and up-keep of Library facilities
·         is a member of the ILS management team
·         serving as point of contact with the University for integrating library data into the PeopleSoft System
·         serving as liaison to one or more subject areas
·         participating in the week-day reference desk rotation

The successful candidate will have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, a strong commitment to excellent customer service, initiative, flexibility, attention to detail, high productivity, and creativity. They will be expected to meet all the library faculty requirements for tenure and promotion.

Minimum qualifications:
·         masters degree from an ALA-accredited Library and Information Science program

Salary and benefits:  Salary based on qualifications.  Minimum $44,000 with a comprehensive benefit package.  This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, tenure-track position with faculty status and academic rank.  Appointment is anticipated at the Assistant Professor rank, but candidates with additional experience may be considered for an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor.

Qualifications:

Education: Master's Degree in Library/Information science or other Master's degree.

Required: At least two years of practical experience with non-MARC metadata in a library environment. Demonstrated experience with multiple relevant XML-based standards (e.g. Dublin Core, MODS, VRA Core, METS, PREMIS). Demonstrated leadership or project management experience in a work setting. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively across groups to achieve objectives. Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Excellent interpersonal skills.  Preferred:  Knowledge of digital repository systems. Demonstrated experience in the transformation of XML documents using XSLT. Knowledge of linked data and semantic web concepts. Knowledge of current cataloging rules, standards and Library of Congress subject headings.

Curator, Modern Literature Collection/Manuscripts


The Special Collections of Washington University Libraries in St. Louis is seeking a dynamic, creative, collaborative, service-oriented individual to serve as Curator, Modern Literature Collection/Manuscripts.  The Special Collections Department is made up of five units (Rare Books, Manuscripts, University Archives, Film and Media Archive, and Modern Graphic History Library) and is a partner in founding the Program for the Illustrated Book, including a printing studio, with the School of Art.  Collaborative efforts with University faculty are a high priority.  The Manuscript unit houses an extensive collection of manuscripts of more than 75 major British and American writers of the 19th and 20th centuries.  Of particular note in the modern literature collection are collections for Samuel Beckett, James Merrill, May Swenson, and William Gaddis, and St. Louis authors Howard Nemerov, William Gass, Stanley Elkin, Donald Finkel, Mona Van Duyn, and John N. Responsibilities: The curator is responsible for building, promoting, and administering the Modern Literature and Manuscript Collections. The curator maintains existing research collections and adds new collections; oversees the creation of finding aids; develops learning and research resources appropriate to the collections; works with faculty, students, and outside researchers; prepares exhibitions; participates in digital projects; and other activities related to outreach. Supervises a full time library assistant and student workers.

Education qualifications: A Master’s degree is required, either MLS from an ALA accredited school or MA in English or Comparative Literature; prefer both.  Subject expertise in contemporary American and British literature.  Evidence of written and oral communication skills.

Experience: Minimum 1 year relevant professional experience required.  Manuscript reference experience preferred.  Collection development experience preferred.  Knowledge of manuscript cataloging procedures preferred.  Experience with DACS, EAD, XML, MARC-AMC, and other relevant formats and standards is desirable.  Familiarity with rare book and manuscript trade preferred.

The Head Librarian, Acquisitions Services, serves as a member of the management team within the Technical Services division of the UT Libraries, The University of Texas at Austin.  This position oversees the unit’s staff and coordinates the daily operations and processing phases of acquisitions of resources. The position reports to the Associate Director for Technical Services, The University of Texas Libraries.  Working hours are Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm or as arranged with the supervisor for a total of 40 hours per week.

In detail, the responsibilities are to:
  • Provide administrative oversight of all acquisitions staff, processes, and accompanying fiscal responsibilities for acquisition of resources.
  • Provide leadership and expertise including management and coordination of acquisitions functions.
  • Review, negotiate and troubleshoots licenses in conjunction with UT Purchasing Office.
  • Communicate with external providers, including publishers, vendors, content providers and technology suppliers.
  • Serve as a resource person to the rest of the UT Libraries on acquisitions related functions.
  • Seek and identify new approaches to management, organization and delivery of content resources.
  • Coordinate and oversee the SFX openURL resolver, the Serials Solutions ERM (Resource Manager), and the Innovative Interface’s Millennium acquisitions and serials modules.
  • Directly supervise 2 full-time professional staff and 2 full-time paraprofessional staff; and indirectly supervise 16 support staff plus student workers.

Required Qualifications: 
MLS from an ALA accredited graduate program.  A minimum of three years of professional level acquisitions and/or selection experience in an academic or research library.  Familiarity with licensing and copyright issues.  Knowledge of e-resource management tools, trends and practices.
Experience working with a variety of library vendors and knowledge of library industry acquisitions practices. Experience working with an integrated library system’s acquisitions and serials modules. 
Experience directing and assessing the work of others in a supervisory role.  Demonstrated leadership potential. Demonstrated sound judgment and decision making skills.  Demonstrated experience establishing priorities, meeting deadlines, and organizing work effectively. Demonstrated strong analytic and problem-solving skills. Experience with management of library materials budget. Excellent analytical, communication (written and spoken) and interpersonal skills.  Ability to work effectively with colleagues and others in a rapidly changing, complex, and diverse environment. Ability to work as a team member and independently. Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service.

Preferred Qualifications:
Three years’ or more professional level experience managing an acquisitions department or area of acquisitions in an academic or research library. Experience negotiating and monitoring licenses.  Three-five years supervisory experience.  Experience with Innovative Interface’s Millennium acquisitions and serials modules, with SFX, and an ERM.  Evidence of team-building, initiative, creative energy and resourcefulness. Demonstrated commitment to providing excellent customer service. Demonstrated participation in library, university, state, and national programs and initiatives.

Salary and Benefits:  $60,000 annually or more, depending upon qualifications and experience.  No state or local income tax.  Standard state benefits package including annual vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, retirement plans, and health insurance options (comprehensive major medical, dental, vision, life, and disability).  Deferred compensation and tax sheltered annuity programs also available.
