DescriptionThe iSchool at the University of Maryland College Park invites highly qualified individuals to apply for multiple tenured or tenure-track faculty positions in an environment in which research and teaching share the highest priority., colleagues offer and expect collaboration in all phases of academic life, and rich resources support research and teaching. The iSchool enrolls over 500 students in four degree programs: Ph.D., a Master of Library Science (MLS), a Master of Information Management (MIM), and a new Master of Human Computer Interaction (HCI). The iSchool is home to nationally ranked programs in Archives and Records Management and School Library Media and is known internationally for its vibrant program of interdisciplinary research in information access, retrieval, and use; digital libraries; information policy; information and diverse populations; information seeking and use in electronic environments; interface design; cloud computing; health information/health information technology; and social media technologies. Faculty members conduct individual and collaborative research with partners on campus and beyond; several hold appointments and other affiliations in Computer Science, Education, English, Institute for Advanced Computing Studies, and Applied Mathematics & Statistics, and Scientific Computation.

Qualifications. Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a related area; demonstrated record of research accomplishments or demonstrated potential for research excellence as appropriate to rank; demonstrated record of attracting outside funding or demonstrated potential for attracting funding as appropriate to rank; and evidence of effective and innovative teaching.

Science Liaison Librarian: Agricultural and Biological Sciences


This tenure-track faculty position is the primary liaison between the Colorado State University Libraries and the selected departments of the College of Agricultural Sciences, and of the College of Natural Sciences.  It is in the College Liaisons unit of the Scholarly Communications Division and reports to the Coordinator, College Liaisons.

The Colorado State University Libraries is a technologically sophisticated environment designed around an Information Commons concept with extensive electronic resources and services.  The Libraries has recently reorganized and is aligned with campus Academic Computing.  The Vice President for Information Technology is also the Dean of Libraries.  CSU is making a strong and strategic investment to ensure a vital role for our academic libraries that meets the needs of the institution now and in the future. This position presents exciting opportunities for a librarian who is innovative, flexible and adaptable in a rapidly changing environment, technologically literate, and interested in exploring new options for providing proactive services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
This tenure-track faculty position is responsible for developing, implementing and assessing effective subject-based instructional programs and research services for students, faculty, researchers, and administrators in the assigned departments.

This assignment includes collection development and faculty liaison responsibilities for academic departments with an emphasis on expanding access to digital resources.

This position serves as the liaison to the academic departments of Agricultural and Resource Economics, Bioagricultural Sciences and Pest Management, Horticulture and Landscape Architecture, Soil and Crop Sciences, the Colorado State University Extension, and the Agricultural Experimentation Station within the College of Agricultural Sciences; and as liaison to the academic departments of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, and Biology within the College of Natural Sciences.  Liaison Librarians at Colorado State University work collaboratively as a group to increase visibility of library services at the college level.  Collaborating with academic faculty in the design of innovative library and classroom instruction and creating expanded programs for library services is emphasized. Outreach activities to the campus are a major emphasis for college liaisons, and this position involves working closely with a variety of campus constituencies to promote research services, digital projects, institutional repositories, and grant activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:  Graduate degree in library science from an ALA-accredited degree program.  Experience working with scientific resources; demonstrated public service or customer service experience; excellent oral and written communication skills; knowledge of and the ability to learn and adapt to new technologies for libraries; experience or interest in exploring innovative options for new services; experience working effectively in a team or collaborative environment as well as managing priorities and projects independently; excellent presentation skills; and ability to meet tenure and promotion requirements.
Preferred: Degree major or minor in a science area; instruction experience; research/reference services experience, experience with databases, collections, and other information resources in the agricultural or biological sciences; experience with the application of technology in libraries; experience working cooperatively and effectively with library constituents.

RANK AND SALARY:  Faculty status and responsibilities. Twelve-month tenure-track appointment with contract reviewed annually until tenure is granted.  Rank is dependent upon qualifications. Insurance benefits are available.  Faculty may select from several options for medical, dental, life, and personal disability insurance, as well as retirement plans.  Full-time faculty earn 24 days of vacation and 15 days of sick leave annually.  Optional deferred compensation.  Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Systems/Emerging Technologies Librarian

Systems/Emerging Technologies Librarian – Wesleyan University, Middletown,  CT  
Reporting to the University Librarian, this position provides dynamic leadership in the design, implementation and maintenance of user-centered library technology services at Wesleyan University Library and in the CTW Consortium, with partners Connecticut College and Trinity College. The person in this position will work collaboratively with a variety of library, campus, consortial and other partners to maintain and upgrade existing library systems and to develop new applications.

Responsibilities:
Leads library systems and technology initiatives:

Keeps current on emerging technologies and library processes, developing new applications to enhance services.  Works collaboratively with library and ITS staff, other campus constituencies, and CTW consortial partners to explore promising ideas.

Leads projects to design and implement new library systems and applications.

Designs and implements enhanced library services and processes using new technologies.

Finds effective ways to integrate existing library systems with third party publications and services such as those provided by Google, OCLC and others.

Maintains and supports existing library systems and technology:

Leads the continuing development of WesScholar, Wesleyan's online archive of University-related content.

Coordinates and oversees the maintenance, repair, and upgrade of library and CTW consortial online systems (including Voyager, SerialsSolutions, EZProxy, ERES, Illiad, ARIEL, and Digital Commons).

Extracts needed data from library systems, producing statistical reports for a variety of purposes.

Supervises the Information Services Technician, who evaluates, replaces and maintains library hardware, performs data loads of bibliographic and other records, troubleshoots staff computer problems, and oversees student technology consultants in the Olin Library Information Commons.  

Collaborates with campus, consortial and professional partners:

Serves as liaison to ITS and other on-campus constituencies to automate and troubleshoot data sharing, and evaluate and implement new campus systems.

Participates in providing core library services such as reference, collection development and library instruction.

Participates in University initiatives and committees, particularly those concerning technology, informatics and content management.

Chairs the CTW Consortium OpComm Committee, which works with the CTW Library Directors to determine future directions in consortial system development.

Acts as contact to such off-campus partners as library automation vendors, Oberlin Group peers, open access programmers, and others.

Participates in professional activities at regional and national levels.

First consideration will be given to applications submitted by October 19,2010.

Position to be filled by February 1, 2011.

Minimum Qualifications:
MLS degree from an accredited library school and 3-5 years experience working in an academic library. Project management experience and demonstrated success in working collaboratively with a variety of constituencies. Detailed understanding of MARC and other metadata schemas.  Experience managing integrated library systems, preferably Voyager or another Oracle/Unix-based system, including reporting tools.  Demonstrated knowledge of codes, standards and rules used to organize data in library systems, and familiarity with internal library operations and workflows. Demonstrated experience with Oracle SQL, UNIX/Linux, XML, XSLT, and scripting languages such as PHP, JavaScript, and PERL.  Record of regional or national professional engagement.

Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum of one year's experience doing reference work in an academic library. Participation in the development of an institutional repository or other digital content management system. Familiarity with open source applications (for example, VuFind) for use in libraries.  Experience in a culturally diverse liberal arts institution. Experience preparing successful grant proposals and coordinating grant-funded projects.

Cataloging and Metadata Librarian


The University Library seeks a collegial, committed, and energetic librarian to provide leadership and guidance in developing, delivering, maintaining and assessing the library’s cataloging and metadata services.

The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian coordinates the cataloging of library materials, regardless of format, including monographs, continuing resources, media, maps, ETDs and special collections. The successful candidate will work closely with staff to evaluate and document policies, procedures and efficient workflows for cataloging, database maintenance and non-MARC metadata creation within the department; and, work with Digital Library Services and other departments to establish relevant metadata policies, procedures and workflows for digital projects. As a faculty member, the Cataloging and Metadata Librarian will perform administrative duties and participate in university and professional activities, including research, publication, planning and decision making processes for the department and library.

The Cataloging and Metadata Librarian reports to the Head of Technical Services.

Required:
