Youth Services Librarian

The St. Louis Public Library is looking for a Youth Services Librarian. Candidates must have a MLS in Library Science. Experience in youth services and storytelling skills desirable. Knowledge of child development and children’s literature is essential.

The person in this position schedules, plans and presents programs in the branch as well as in schools, head starts, daycares, parent and teacher groups, etc. Provides reference assistance to children and youth. Assists children and adults with computers, including Internet access. Position requires use of personal vehicle to travel to various locations for outreach programs. This position requires flexibility and good written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work with children of all ages, and possess sound judgment. This individual must be able to establish rapport with co-workers, patrons and staff in daycare centers, head starts, and busy neighborhood library serving a diverse multicultural clientele. Prepares deposit collections and assists with collection development and maintenance. Maintains statistics and community contacts. Supervises homework helpers and volunteers. Manages department in the absence of the Manager. May assists with system-wide projects as assigned and serve on Youth Services and system committees.
