Instruction and Reference Services Librarian

Mount Saint Mary College seeks a creative, energetic, and self-motivated librarian to advance instruction and reference services at Curtin Memorial Library. Reporting to the library director, the Instruction and Reference Services Librarian is a campus and library leader in all aspects of information literacy instruction. Has primary responsibility for the library’s information literacy program, including course-related instruction in general education and discipline-based courses, student and faculty workshops, online tutorials, and research consultations. Designs and manages in-person and electronic reference service, including a new information commons. Develops and maintains web pages that support instruction and reference. Works closely with classroom faculty to promote instruction and reference service. Responsible for developing student learning outcomes and for assessing both instruction and reference. Supervises the curriculum library and its staff. Supervises part-time reference librarians. Works with campus offices outside the library to integrate information literacy into the college curriculum. Develops the reference collection and participates in collection development in assigned subject areas. Is expected to be professionally active and active in college service.

Required Qualifications
· A master’s degree in library/information science from an ALA-accredited program
· A minimum of two years of teaching experience, preferably in a college library.
· A minimum of two years of recent academic reference experience.
· A commitment to the goals of information literacy, a genuine enthusiasm for teaching, and demonstrated teaching ability.
· The ability to design and manage responsive reference services in an information commons environment.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills. A “people person,” able to establish a quick rapport with students and faculty.
· Familiarity with emerging technologies and trends in higher education.
· Commitment to continuous improvement, best practices, and innovation in library services.
· Flexibility in covering reference desk and instruction schedules.
· Ability to meet performance guidelines established for library faculty.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively with librarians and support staff.

Preferred Qualifications
· Experience in coordinating library instruction programs.
· Experience in integrating information literacy into a general education program.
· Experience in assessing information literacy learning outcomes.
· Library liaison experience.
· Experience in creating or maintaining web site content.

Appointment
This is a 12-month, tenure-track position. Strong benefits package including four weeks vacation and tuition benefits. Salary commensurate with experience.
