JOB SUMMARY:
The goal of Access Support is to provide leadership in the development, coordination and provision of services that facilitate user access to information resources. Access Support serves as the central point for distribution and clarification of policies and procedures for user access services. The unit is comprised of 8 FTE who perform lending, borrowing, document delivery, reserves, and customer service responsibilities. Access Support personnel instruct students, faculty, and staff in copyright compliance and seek copyright permissions for reserve and interlibrary loan materials.
The University of Florida Libraries seeks a skilled, organized, and service-oriented individual to head its Access Support unit. This tenure accruing faculty position has direct responsibility for coordinating circulation policies, processes, and project management for interlibrary loan, document delivery, and electronic course reserves for the libraries.
A key element of the assignment is the use of consensus building to determine/recommend consistency in policy development. The position is responsible for preparation of web-based resources, identifying best practices and trends in access services, and managing the workflow of a crucial unit whose goal is to support a large and complex research institution. The incumbent will pursue professional development opportunities, including research, publication, and
professional association activities, to meet library-wide criteria for tenure and promotion (see http://www.uflib.ufl.edu/Pers/cdh/).
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Defines goals; establishes objectives and priorities; develops, implements, and evaluates plans, services, and programs for consistency; allocates resources and responsibilities for unit. Seeks opportunities for the Libraries to cooperate with other campus units.
· Provides leadership for the coordination and provision of circulation policies. Leads the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance service delivery and to comply with state, regional, and national agreements. Works with all stakeholders to manage the compilation and communication of policies via the Access Support web site.
· Develops, implements, evaluates, and reports on new services and programs.
· Provides coordination for course reserves, interlibrary loan, and copyright for on-campus and distance users; utilizes new technologies to make delivery of these services to users as efficient and seamless as possible; monitors and evaluates workflow; and, coordinates upgrades of equipment and software. Supervises 8 FTE direct reports.
· Coordinates student, staff, and faculty training in reserves, interlibrary loan, and copyright. Promotes scholarly communication.
· Prepares departmental statistical reports and is responsible for synthesizing information for projects, grants, and library use.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
1. Masters degree in library science from an ALA accredited library school or equivalent.
2. Successful supervisory experience in a library.
3. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments for self and others.
4. Strong customer service orientation.
5. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
6. Working knowledge of OCLC, integrated library system(s), interlibrary loan and reserves applications.
7. Substantiated, extensive knowledge of loan, circulation, and academic library practices.
8. Previous successful history in project management and attention to deadlines/details in a library environment.
9. Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to develop consensus in diverse project groups.
10. Ability to manage complex, multi-faceted projects in a team environment.
11. Demonstrated knowledge of and enthusiasm for the integration of new technologies in delivery/access services.
12. Potential for meeting the requirements for tenure and promotion in a research environment.
Preferred:
1. Experience with managing reserves, interlibrary loan, circulation, and copyright.
2. Experience in training others in best practices in access/support services.
3. Experience with ExLibris, ILLiad and Ares.
4. Familiarity with web-based content access/delivery tools.

Purpose of position: The Coordinator provides leadership in administering a materials budget to anticipate and meet the needs of the University community. This budget is over 5,000,000 U.S. dollars. Works closely with other program areas and branch libraries to coordinate shared activities.
Essential functions: Within the context of the Library organization and in consultation with other program areas, the incumbent plans for the continued growth and development of the Information Resources program. The Coordinator works with the Library administrators and other program coordinators to develop long range and strategic directions and initiatives. Develops the specific long range and operational goals related to Information Resources. Develops and implements mechanisms to assess progress toward goal and unit effectiveness. Develops budget proposals in relation to the Program goals and makes resource allocation decisions within the resources assigned. Receives academic department accreditation and new program inquiries, gathers data, and completes forms or reports; represents the University Library on the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. Monitors national and international trends and developments relevant to acquisitions, intellectual property rights, licensing, preservation and digital resources and provides initiative in supporting open access efforts and scholarly communication changes. Responds to the needs of the Program's primary customers, both internal and external. Participates in professional associations, workshops, conferences, and meetings; contributes to the advancement of the profession and the status of the UT Arlington Library. Required qualifications: American Library Association accredited Master's degree. Extensive and increasingly responsible and varied post-MLS professional experience in research academic libraries. Minimum of 5 years work experience in the administration of at least 2 of the following areas: acquisitions, collection management, preservation, or serials and electronic resources. Minimum of 3 years supervisory experience. Evidence of excellent oral and written communication skills. Demonstrated successful leadership and the ability to work productively with a wide range of individuals and groups. Able to articulate a well-developed vision for the future of collections, both print and electronic, in an academic library. Libary Education Positions
The School of Library & Information Studies, College of Communication & Information Sciences, The University of Alabama, invites applications and nominations for instructor for a three-year renewable contract, beginning as early as August 2009. Successful candidates will be prepared to teach six courses per year (including summer), to advise graduate students, and to participate in the life of the school. Instructors are welcome, but not obligated, to have a research/publication agenda. All faculty members provide online, on-campus, and off-site face-to-face instruction. Instructors must have 18 semester hours beyond the Master's degree; substantial progress toward a doctorate is desirable. Instructors will be eligible to apply for tenure leading positions as they become available and as individual qualifications match departmental needs.

The School, with 14 faculty members, offers an ALA-accredited Master's program, an MFA program in the book arts, and doctoral courses that contribute to a multidisciplinary doctorate in communication and information sciences. The School is selective in admissions for all program options and the MLIS program ranks among the top 25 programs in North America.

Branch Manager
MLS degree from an ALA Accredited Library School and a minimum of 3-5 years public library managerial experience.
The person in this position must have supervisory skills to manage the day-to-day operation of a neighborhood branch. It is essential that the person in this position be able to direct the activities of others while maintaining excellent customer relation skills. Must have superior abilities in the area of reference and readers advisory. Also, will have the knowledge of reference tools, bibliographic sources and classification systems and the ability to apply this knowledge to assigned areas of responsibility. Should possess excellent organizational skills; report writing skills and attention to detail. Additionally, operational support is needed in the areas of circulation, statistical reporting, opening and closing of the branch, collection development, making presentations and directing the daily branch operations. Must have strong professional skills in community outreach and adult programming. Should be able to meet deadlines and follow SLPL Policies and Procedures. Experience working with diverse populations is a plus. Verbal, written and computer skills are essential. Must have a willingness to provide customer service in a small but busy branch in a transitional neighborhood.

Education Services Librarian

Education Services Librarian
Librarians in Education Services participate in a wide variety of instructional programs, design materials and assessment instruments for face-to-face as well as online instruction, create instruction-related web pages, and contribute to direct patron service.
Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Head of Education Services, the successful candidate will work with the Education Services librarians and others in an ambitious program to expand information, visual, and technology literacies across the disciplines. The librarian will assist in developing and offering new and innovative ways to teach students. Librarians in Education Services have a passion for teaching and provide stimulating experiences for students as they learn to use library resources and software applications. Library instruction is provided through first year courses, course-integrated instruction across the disciplines, stand-alone workshops, research labs, in-house faculty and staff workshops, and through online resources and services. Instruction librarians are excited about working with faculty members. Campus outreach is an important role. Education Services Librarians develop assessment instruments, provide research services, use emerging technologies, and may participate in collection development. The successful candidate will have responsibility for coordinating one of the first-year library instruction programs: Writing 2010, Educational Psychology 2600, the Marriott Library workshop series, or LEAP, a first year experience program. A key quality in a successful candidate will be the ability to thrive in a changing environment.
Required:
- ALA-accredited MLS by time of hire or equivalent academic credential
- Knowledge of the Information Literacy Competency Standards for Higher Education
- Strong interest in teaching and using innovative and engaging pedagogical strategies
- Demonstrated effective training/teaching skills with group, class, and one-on-one settings
- Experience with information technologies including web design, web authoring tools, and emerging technologies such as RSS, podcasting, blogs, wikis
- Experience or training in developing online resources such as tutorials, point of need assistance, surveys, and guides
- Interest in using and teaching software applications
- Ability to work both independently and with others in a team environment
- Evidence of strong oral and written communication skills
- Commitment to providing excellent and innovative service
- Ability to work in a complex, changing environment
- Ability to meet University’s requirements for promotion and continuing appointment (tenure equivalency)
- Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population
- Successful completion of a criminal background check
Preferred:
- Classroom teaching experience
- Knowledge of adult learning
- Knowledge of instructional design principles
- Experience in providing in-person and/or online services at a reference, help, or information desk
- Familiarity with course management software
- Experience in an academic library
Salary: $44,000
Benefits: Excellent benefits calculated at approximately 35% of salary including TIAA-CREF, medical, dental, generous paid sick and vacation accrual, sabbaticals, professional development time.
Marriott Library is an ARL library with holding of nearly 3 million volumes, including 32,000 journals in electronic and print formats, and a considerable number of other networked electronic resources. The University, with a student population of 27,000, is situated on a 1,500 acre campus in Salt Lake City. The library is very near completion of a large-scale renovation which includes a state- of-the-art Knowledge Commons and a center to create multimedia digital content. Teaching facilities, used by campus and library instructors, include 18 classrooms, labs and seminar rooms and a 250 seat auditorium.
Salt Lake has a population of over 1 million and offers residents a wide variety of cultural, entertainment and recreational activities, all located along the Wasatch Mountain Range.
