Technical Services Librarian

Western State College of Colorado

Position: Western State College of Colorado seeks a dynamic, service-oriented librarian to manage the cataloging and technical services operations of the library and to participate in staffing the reference desk. The technical services librarian performs original cataloging on monographs, serials, AV, archives, manuscripts, and electronic resources as needed; manages copy cataloging, materials processing, and other technical services operations; serves as the
library’s liaison to the integrated library system’s consortium (Marmot Library Network);
manages the college’s archives and special collections and institutional repository for storing
and accessing electronic records; staffs the reference desk in rotation with other library staff;
and participates in hiring, training, and supervising student staff as needed. Additional duties
include participating in virtual reference services and participating with other library staff
members in collection development, committee work, and setting goals and objectives for the
library. Night and weekend work is required in rotation with other librarians. The technical
services librarian reports to the director of library services.

Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with qualifications: $35,000-$37,000 per year. Benefits include an employee/employer shared contribution retirement plan and life and health insurance.

Start Date: January 2009 preferred.

Qualifications: Required are an ALA-accredited M.L.S.; experience in original cataloging; knowledge of and familiarity with MARC formats and OCLC standards; experience in project management;
experience in public service; excellent communication skills; and ability to work as part of a
team of librarians and library support staff. Preferred qualifications are knowledge of and
familiarity with archival management; experience and familiarity with an Innovative Interfaces
integrated library system; and knowledge of and familiarity with current meta-data standards
such as Dublin Core and MODS.
