Library Director, Lineaugh Public Library System

Charming, historical Rutherford County is seeking a Library Director for the Linebaugh Public Library System, headquartered in Murfreesboro, TN just 32 miles from Nashville. Join Rutherford County’s public library system and lead a staff of 82 to develop and maintain the quality library services and programs that are a vital part of this growing community. The Board of Trustees seeks a library leader to work with Murfreesboro, Smyrna, Eagleville and the County, (service area population of 212,424) to establish new avenues of services, funding, and facilities. With three branches and a bookmobile, the Linebaugh Library System loans 900,000+ items annually to 107,749 cardholders and manages a $2 million annual budget.

Responsibilities. The Director reports to a 14 member Library Board—seven members appointed by the City and seven members appointed by the County—and will work closely with the communities, elected officials and staff to develop a direction for the future of Linebaugh’s facilities, services and programs. Challenges and opportunities include: assessing physical plants and service area; making recommendations for facilities and space improvements; increasing the Library System’s visibility in the community; developing and maintaining collaborative partnerships; promoting the Library’s mission and values; and enhancing funding streams through the Library’s foundation, Friends groups and additional fundraising venues. Qualifications. A master’s degree in library science from an ALA accredited program and at least five years of progressively responsible library experience in an administrative position managing professional staff and programs. Essential attributes include a strong understanding and ability to articulate the public library’s vision, mission and values to the community, collaboration and consensus-building skills; facilities and space planning experience; excellent interpersonal and team-building skills; and a history of responsiveness to staff, customer and community needs and concerns; and sound fiscal management skills. Successful experience working with a policy-making board and collaborating with elected officials is highly desirable.

Compensation. Starting salary range of $67,085 - $78,799 (dependent upon qualifications) with a standard fringe benefits package.
