Archivist/Special Collections Librarian

Fogler Library, University of Maine

The University of Maine Library is seeking an Archivist/Special Collections Librarian to work in its Special Collections Department, the holdings of which constitute one of the major resources for research on Maine History. This is a 12-month, full-time position, with an excellent benefits package. The anticipated starting salary range is $40,461 - $45,000, depending on qualifications. Responsibilities and Duties: Processing archival collections; writing, editing, and reformatting archival finding aids and cataloging records; advising and instructing Special Collections’ users on available resources; contributing to digital library projects, exhibits, and outreach activities, and other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications: An ALA-accredited MLS, Master’s degree in Archives, or other appropriate field that included courses in Archives. Familiarity with archival descriptive standards. Experience processing archival collections, encoding finding aids in EAD, and preparing collection-level cataloging records. Ability to lift 30-50 pound boxes. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with a diverse staff and clientele. Must be eligible to accept employment in the United States. Appropriate background checks will be conducted.

Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of Maine History; experience providing public service; familiarity with new digital applications that could be used to enhance access to archival collections.
