Special Collections Librarian

 

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries invites applications for Special Collections Librarian.


Reporting to the Head of Special Collections Technical Services, the Special Collections Librarian will be dedicated to improving access to and discovery of archival materials in Special Collections. The incumbent will join a new department responsible for accessioning, processing, and preserving Special Collections materials in all formats. This department will work closely with the Libraries’ Digital Collections Department and Discovery Services Department.  


The Special Collections Librarian will be key in implementing a new archival collection management system and will be responsible for analyzing, mapping, standardizing, consolidating, and encoding description from multiple sources. The incumbent will also conduct a survey of holdings and analyze their value and processing needs. He/she will help ensure that Special Collections achieves a baseline of physical and intellectual control over all of its archival holdings. He/she will create, review, and upload finding aids. He/she will be instrumental in digitization workflows. The incumbent may eventually work with born digital records, including web archives, as well as complex archival processing projects. The incumbent will serve on Special Collections’ Reference Desk and assist in the department’s many outreach activities to the campus and community.
