Emerging Technologies Librarian

Reports to the Head of Library Information Technology
The Emerging Technologies Librarian supports the exploration, integration and management of new and emerging technologies and the integration and improvement of existing systems and applications to deliver information and services to library users in support of the mission, vision and values of Raynor Memorial Libraries and Marquette University.

Specific responsibilities
·      Explore and identify new and emerging technologies in collaboration with Library Technology staff and library departments
·      Assist in the implementation of new systems and applications including planning, project management and providing staff training
·      Improve the efficiency and integration of existing systems including:
o   MARQCAT integrated library system
o   Library SharePoint sites
o   Mobile interfaces, devices, and software
o   Microsoft Access databases with Web and desktop interfaces
o   XML encoded library data structures
o   SQL-based library statistical programs
·      Participate in the implementation of Agile development practices
·      Participate in collection development duties
Required Qualifications
·      ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library and Information Science
·      Minimum 2 years related experience
·      Demonstrated knowledge of operations, services, key issues and trends in academic libraries
·      Experience with library application and systems implementation; understanding of requirements setting and use-case development
·      Excellent oral and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and the ability to collaborate with diverse constituencies
·      Strong commitment to patron service and support
·      Demonstrated experience designing and implementing relational databases
·      Demonstrated experience building dynamic library web interfaces
·      Ability to manage/manipulate batch library data and interface to relational and XML databases from within a programming language
·      Successful project management experience
·      Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development and library innovation

Preferred Qualifications
·      Knowledge of metadata standards
·      Knowledge of digital library standards and technologies
·      Experience leveraging library APIs
·      Experience with SharePoint 2010 services and functionality
