The Contra Costa County
Library is recruiting Librarians for a variety of responsible and challenging
library service assignments.
Contra Costa County encourages interested candidates to consider this
exceptional career opportunity with one of the Bay Area’s most progressive and
respected libraries. Permanent
full-time, permanent part-time, and permanent intermittent (substitute)
vacancies may be filled from the results of this examination. Initial
assignments may be as a Youth Services Librarian, Adult or Teen Services
Librarian, Collection Development Librarian, or Juvenile Hall Librarian.
New Librarians receive
training in all aspects of the County Library’s operation, services and
programs, as well as in-depth training in their specific assignment. Promotional opportunities are available
to Library Specialist, Community Library Manager, and Senior Community Library
Manager.
The County Library
operates twenty-six (26) community libraries within a 750 square mile area and
serves close to 1 million urban, suburban and rural patrons with an annual
circulation exceeding 7.4 million.
Applicants in the last
semester or quarter of obtaining the required educational degree may complete
the application for Librarian, and if hired, start as Librarian Trainee
($3,817/month) prior to completion of the degree. Librarian Trainee is the trainee level in the professional
librarian series and is flexibly staffed with the classification of Librarian.
The employment list
established from this examination may remain in effect for one (1) year.
MINIMUM
QUALIFICATIONS
License
Required: Candidates
must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment a valid
California Motor Vehicle Operator’s License. Out of state valid motor vehicle
operator’s license will be accepted during the application process.
Education:
Possession of a graduate degree from a school of librarianship accredited by
the American Library Association.
