Digital Scholarship Librarian


Washington and Lee University invites nominations and applications for the library’s new position of Digital Scholarship Librarian (DSL).  Within a team environment, the DSL will provide vision and energy in designing discovery and delivery pathways that facilitate access to the university’s digital resources and collections. The responsibilities include overall management of digital resources, including  the library’s licensed resources and growing digital repository.  The successful candidate will guide development of digital initiatives and work with library and ITS colleagues and vendors to resolve complex issues relating to scholarly content systems. The DSL is a non-tenure track faculty position that supervises two full-time staff and a few student assistants in the library’s Technical Services Department.

Head of Discovery Services Librarian


The University of Nevada, Las Vegas Libraries invites applications for the position of Head of Discovery Services Librarian.

Reporting to the Director of Logistics & Resources Distribution Services and together with the Head of Collections (Access), this position will co-manage LRDS, a division-wide staff of 20+, focusing on the Discovery aspects of the Division’s work. The incumbent will continue to develop a new “technical services” paradigm through the supervision of staff and librarians involved with the cataloging/metadata workflows that enhance discovery and access of print and electronic resources, regardless of ownership, but always keeping the end-user in mind. This work requires collaboration with others across the organization engaged in related challenges. Responsibilities include contributing to leadership and vision in the design of a comprehensive, future-oriented approach to making library collections (and other materials) accessible regardless of system(s). This will involve working across divisions to collaboratively develop and coordinate the various cataloging/metadata related workflows that facilitate ubiquitous access and discovery and continuously evaluate the Libraries’ online resource discovery environment. This position, with a strong background in MARC record management and familiarity with non-MARC standards, will also contribute to the library-wide effort to research next generation ILS / Library Services Platforms. This position will facilitate the MARC metadata “clean up” associated with significant print collection migrations.

Library DIrector


The East Baton Rouge Parish Library (http://ebrpl.com/) seeks a dynamic and experienced director with demonstrated leadership skills and professionalism, relevant library experience, excellent communication skills, and the vision and talent to take the system to the next level of excellence to better serve the community. The East Baton Rouge Parish Library System, nationally recognized as one of the top library systems in the nation, provides public library service for the City of Baton Rouge and the Parish of East Baton Rouge. Serving a population of more than 436,265 in the metropolitan area, the system consists of a Main Library and 12 branches, plus one under design and two under construction, including a new Main library. The library has a collection of 1.8 million items, and a staff allotment of 543 (379 FTE), and an annual circulation of 2.3 million. The library is funded by a tenyear 11.1 mill property tax that generates an estimated $38 million annually for the operation and maintenance of the existing system as well as a payasyougo capital improvements program. The tax is to be renewed in 2015.

Electronic Services Librarian

Saint Martin’s University, a private Catholic, Benedictine university located in western Washington, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position as Electronic Services Librarian beginning August 2012. In addition to coordinating and enhancing the library’s electronic resources and services, the Electronic Services Librarian participates in O’Grady Library’s information literacy program, providing library instruction and reference assistance in individual, classroom, and online settings. The Research and Education Librarian will be an active member of the library’s education and outreach programs, teaching general orientation sessions, course-integrated instruction and workshops; developing course content and instructing students in the classroom; leading tours and staffing outreach and orientation events. Assume a leadership role in developing and coordinating special programs as needed.  The Research and Education Librarian is expected to be active professionally and to contribute to developments in the field. Faculty with the VCU Libraries are evaluated, and promoted, on the basis of job performance, scholarship, and professional development and service.

Qualifications

Required: ALA-accredited graduate degree or accredited graduate degree in another appropriate discipline.  Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
 Preferred: Experience working in an academic health sciences library setting. Demonstrated commitment to teaching and learning in graduate and professional education. Experience teaching to a variety of audience levels. Strong knowledge of Web 2.0 and emerging instructional methods and technologies. Knowledge of current and emerging trends in teaching and learning in academic library instruction. Experience searching relevant resources such as PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL to assist with literature reviews, systematic reviews, and mediated searching. Demonstrated success in the application of technology to support student learning and familiarity with Web authoring tools. Understanding of scholarly communications and an awareness of national trends in scholarly publishing. Experience in evaluating and using electronic resources.  Ability to work independently as well as with a team.  Strong service orientation.  Excellent presentation and public speaking skills. Ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities under pressure. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Flexibility and adaptability for work in an evolving, fast-paced environment. Willingness to seek membership in the Academy of Health Information Professionals (AHIP).

Research and Instructional Services Librarian

 
Marquette University Raynor Memorial Libraries seeks a Research and Instructional Services Librarian. The successful candidate will provide general and specialized reference assistance and will participate in library instruction, collection management, and other liaison services for the Department of English, including coordination of freshman English library sessions.  This position reports to the Head of Research and Instructional Services.

Responsibilities:
  • Provide a variety of user-centered services for faculty and students including orientation to library resources, library instruction, and research support.
  • Engage in collaborations with faculty to integrate information literacy into the curriculum.
  • Collaborate with English Faculty, Library Faculty, and an Instructional Designer to develop online learning objects to support freshman English courses.
  • Provide reference service at the library’s Information Desk.
  • Engage in collection management duties for English.
  • Contribute to and learn from the profession through such avenues as local, state, and national professional organizations, presentations, and publications

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • MLS from an ALA accredited Institution
  • Knowledge of current trends and methodologies in humanities research and scholarly communication
  • Experience creating web-based instructional and informational materials
  • Ability to use educational technology effectively and to adapt to technological and organizational change
  • Experience providing instruction or training
  • Experience with assessment tools and techniques
  • Strong commitment to patron service and support
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability and willingness to work with colleagues in collaborative and team

Library Instruction Fellowship


Responsibilities:   The Library Instruction Fellowship is a two-year fellowship that offers a recent graduate the opportunity to work in a research library on diverse activities supporting instruction and information literacy initiatives.  As a member of the Liaison Services Department, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing instruction in face-to-face and online environments.  This fellowship position will help further the goals of the instruction program by working collaboratively with liaison librarians and the Coordinator of Undergraduate Instruction in the planning, teaching, and assessment of instruction sessions, with a particular focus on lower-level undergraduate classes.  There will be a strong emphasis on utilizing active learning techniques and classroom assessment techniques.  This fellow will have opportunities to assist in outreach events, training, creating  LibGuides, tutorials, class materials, and serve as a member of the Instruction Management Committee.  In addition, this fellow will participate in some other departmental activities such as reference services.  The position reports to the Head of Liaison Services for Instruction & Outreach.

Qualifications: 
Required:
·      Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program, conferred within the last 24 months
·      Demonstrated teamwork and collaboration skills
·      Demonstrated interest or coursework in library instruction  
·      Knowledge of active learning techniques and assessment practices
Preferred: 
·      Reference or classroom teaching experience
Salary:  $44,000 to $46,000 anticipated hiring range, depending on qualifications.  Excellent benefits package, including health coverage; choice of retirement programs including TIAA-CREF; tax-deferred annuity program available; release time to take a class up to 3 hrs/week; no state or local income tax.
