Regional Youth Librarian

Candidates must have a MLS from an ALA accredited Library School.  3–5 year’s library experience desirable.  Experience in service to youth (in education, child care, youth development or related fields) preferred.  Strong knowledge of literature for children and young adults required.

Provides direct service, plans and implements branch and outreach programs for juveniles, teens and young adults.  Supervises Youth Services Providers, part-time homework helpers and teen volunteers.  Mentors and assists with appraisal of YS staff at two branches.  Works closely with branch staff; may be placed in charge for brief periods of time.  Provides operational support in the areas of circulation, statistical reporting, opening and closing the branch, patron complaints and problem solving, scheduling, outreach services, collection development and presentations.  Serves as part of Youth Services leadership team and may have additional responsibilities assigned.  Will report to the Regional Branch Manager and the Director of Youth Services.

Must be outgoing, flexible, enthusiastic, and have a strong commitment to serving a diverse community. Must have knowledge of reference tools, bibliographic sources, cataloging, and classification systems; Strong organizational and long-range planning skills are essential.  Creativity and strong public speaking and storytelling skills are essential.  Experience with computers, databases and print reference sources required.
