Northeastern University Libraries seek an experienced professional for the position of Processing Archivist. This is a one-year term appointment whose primary responsibilities are to arrange, describe and make accessible records gathered by the Tobacco Control Resource Center documenting the Massachusetts Group Against Smoking Pollution, Stop Teenage Addiction to Tobacco, and Northeastern University's Tobacco Products Liability Project. Under the direction of the Assistant Archivist, the Processing Archivist will conduct historical research on the organization; analyze unprocessed historical records to develop appraisal criteria and arrangement and description procedures; identify records requiring basic preservation measures; prepare descriptive inventories (historical note, scope and content note, series descriptions, box/folder listing) using word processing software, HTML, and EAD (Electronic Archival Description); supervise part-time project assistants. This is a full-time, one-year, benefits-eligible position. This is an exciting opportunity to participate in a project to increase the availability of anti-smoking, tobacco control, and litigation records.
Qualifications
ALA-accredited MLS with an archival specialization. Minimum of two years of experience processing large 20th century collections. Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, interpersonal, planning, analytical, conceptual, and supervisory skills. Familiarity with descriptive cataloging principles, including the application of DACS and EAD. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Ability to lift boxes weighing up to 40 pounds. Sensitivity to issues of diversity in the workplace.
