The City of Fort Worth Library System seeks an Assistant Director who has succeeded in planning, implementing, and managing innovative, responsive customer-service operations. This energetic individual must be committed to and comfortable with building relationships, coalitions, and public/private partnerships for the purposes of improving and promoting library services, and identifying potential sources of funding. One of two assistant directors, this position reports directly to the Library Director.  The successful candidate will possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to solve problems using creative strategies.  

Under the general direction of the Library Director, the Assistant Libraries Director of Public Services will facilitate and coordinate direct service delivery to customers. Responsibilities will include, but not limited to, managing all services and activities related to branch and Central Library including staffing, programs, hours of operation; recommending and administering policies and developing and implementing new services regardless of funding sources; serving on a variety of boards, commissions and committees; and preparing and presenting staff reports and other necessary correspondence.

Candidates must have a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited college or university and six (6) years of progressively responsible library management experience, including four (4) years in a managerial role in a multi-library system.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing bilingual skills and those who are actively involved with the library profession, civic organizations, and community at large.
