Loyola Marymount University seeks an experienced librarian for the position of Archivist for the University Archives at the William H. Hannon Library.

The Archivist will be responsible for planning, developing, and implementing a university archives program within the academic research library setting, managing university records in all formats, including digital, pertaining to the heritage of the Loyola Marymount University community or retained in the University's interest. Responsibilities include appraising collections through formulated selection practices and supervising the transfer of selected records to the university archives for permanent retention, providing access to collections through proper arrangement, description, and processing, and assisting university departments with developing records management plans. The Archivist will participate in the department’s public services programs providing reference services, class lectures and tours, and curatorship of gallery exhibitions. The Archivist reports to the Head of Archives and Special Collections.
Other position specific accountabilities are as follows:
o Prepare and maintain current collection guides for all record groups within the Archives, mounting electronic versions on the department’s website, maintaining pages as needed, and making selected collection guides available on the Online Archive of California.
o Build and manage an internship program to process and provide access to the Archives.
o Participate in a departmental program of preservation and conservation of materials, prioritizing preservation needs within the University Archives collections.
o Identify, write, and participate in grant proposals and projects.
The ideal candidate must have a broad knowledge of current trends in higher education and academic libraries in respect to, and experience in, archival administration and academic records management. Other skills and knowledge include: contributions to librarianship through publications, research, and participation in relevant professional associations; and service through university and library committee work.
Required: A Master's degree in Library Science or Archival Studies from a program accredited by the American Library Association or an equivalent advanced degree. Minimum one year professionally responsible experience in an archives within an academic library environment. Understanding of records management fundamentals. Knowledge of descriptive and encoding standards, including DACS and EAD. Excellent writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively with administrators, researchers and scholars making use of archival collections. Strong public services orientation. Evidence of well developed organizational, time, and project management skills. Evidence of well-developed interpersonal skills, initiative, leadership, creative energy and resourcefulness. Must be self directed, flexible and adaptable to change, analytical, creative, and results oriented.
Preferred: Three to five years of progressively responsible experience in an archives within an academic library environment. Certified Archivist. Knowledge of content management systems. Knowledge of rare books and manuscript librarianship. Grant-writing experience.
Hiring Salary: $52,850 to $68,759 commensurate with experience and salary history.
