Data Management Librarian

American University Library invites applications for a multi-year non tenure track contract Data Management Librarian position at the rank of Assistant Librarian, beginning Fall 2010, subject to budgetary authorization.

Responsibilities: Seeking an innovative, energetic, and user-oriented librarian to manage the Acquisitions and Cataloging Services Units; represent the Acquisitions and Cataloging Services units on the Information Delivery Services Administrative Team; provide strategic planning and initiatives for Acquisitions and Cataloging within the context of the Library and University strategic goals; provide expertise, leadership, and management in the creation and maintenance of metadata for the description and discovery of content acquired or created by the library; manage the loading, removal, and batch processing of records in the Voyager system; and partner with the Head of Access Services, the Budget and Finance Manager, and the Electronic Resources Librarian to ensure an efficient workflow of library materials from the point of request to user discovery and throughout the full cycle of continued maintenance of the physical and online collections.

Requirements: ALA accredited Master’s degree in library and/or information science. At least two years of library experience using an automated library system, Voyager experience preferred. Advanced knowledge of technical rules and standards for library cataloging, including national cataloging rules and standards, MARC (Machine Readable Cataloging) tagging, and metadata, as well as knowledge of OCLC, the international bibliographic database. Two years of supervisory and/or training experience. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Accuracy. Strong attention to detail. Excellent analytical thinking and problem solving skills. Excellent organizational skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Demonstrated initiative. Ability to sit at a desk and/or computer for extended hours, read computer screens, and use computer keyboards.

Salary: Competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.
