Associate University Librarian

It is an exciting time at the Washington University Libraries.  The recent appointment of a new University Librarian coupled with two vacancies at the Associate University Librarian level provides us with an opportunity to totally transform the organization. Come join our team and help us craft a new vision for a 21st century academic library!

The Washington University Libraries invites applications for two positions at the Associate University Librarian level.  We are seeking creative, innovative, visionary administrators who desire to be part of a dynamic and collegial senior leadership team as we enter into formal planning for our future.

We invite applicants who have demonstrated dynamic, innovative and creative approaches to leading projects, solving problems, and initiating new services designed to meet user needs.  Areas of oversight will be determined by the experience and background of the successful candidates through matching talents with AUL roles.  Areas could include access services, support for teaching and research, collections, digital services, special collections or other units.  As members of the senior management team, the AUL’s will participate in planning, budget, operations, and personnel decisions for the libraries.

Persons hired for these positions will help develop, articulate and share the Library’s vision and direct staff to develop and implement innovations, comprehensive programs and services based on the vision. Other responsibilities are:  Play a significant lead role in library-wide planning, setting strategic initiatives, resource education, policy development and evaluation of activities and services.  Work collaboratively with library staff and faculty and students to address scholarly, research, teaching and learning needs expeditiously.  Provide leadership and direction to specific areas of the Libraries and lead multiple projects and initiatives.

These positions require a graduate degree from an accredited library school or other relevant graduate degree.  Given the level of these positions, we would normally expect candidates to have a minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in an academic institution.  However, other applicable experience will be considered.
