Art Public Services Librarian


Northwestern University Library seeks an engaged, service-oriented professional to interact with faculty and students to coordinate public service, collection development, outreach, and planning in the fields of art, art history, architecture, photography, and design.  The Art Public Services Librarian reports to the Head of the Art Collection within the Special Libraries Division.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBLILITES:  The Art Public Services Librarian interacts with faculty and students; provides reference and research consultation; manages the reading rooms; hires, trains, and supervises student assistants; develops instructional programs, materials, and outreach services; maintains Art Collection webpages; assists with decisions regarding the preservation and reformatting of art materials; interacts with other library departments and serves on library and university committees; selects books, journals, and electronic resources in assigned collection areas.

QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program in library and information science or the equivalent combination of education and relevant library experience; extensive knowledge of art history and literature; expertise with print and electronic resources; aptitude for teaching and training; reading knowledge of European or Asian languages is required.  Successful supervisory, training, and/or management experience in an academic art library; Master's degree in art history or a related humanities field; collection development experience; familiarity with web design and editing; familiarity with preservation and archival practices; record of professional service and/or research are preferred.  For more information, go to http://www.library.northwestern.edu/about/library-administration/jobs.
