Utah State University Libraries seek an energetic, articulate, and well-organized person to assume management of the University’s thriving DigitalCommons Institutional Repository (IR) and Scholarly Communication activities. The successful candidate will have a keen interest in scholarly communication and copyright issues, and a willingness to learn and develop additional expertise through professional development opportunities in these areas.
Reporting to the Head of Digital Initiatives, the position is a 12-month, tenure track, faculty appointment with rank as assistant librarian. This position works both independently and in a collaborative environment to promote use of DigitalCommons as a repository for university research and publications (faculty and student works, online journals, USU press, etc.) and as an integrated tool in the scholarly communication process on campus. This position also leads the efforts to raise awareness of scholarly communication issues, such as open access, and actively participates in the USU Copyright Committee.
Responsibilities and duties include:
· Managing the daily operation of the IR. This involves adding and editing content, working with vendors, training other library staff, etc.
· Working with appropriate vendors and staff to maintain the DigitalCommons website which includes EdiKit and Selected Works
· Creating and updating IR policies, procedures, and other necessary documentation
· Maintaining and developing new partnerships with Library subject liaisons, USU faculty, USU departments and research units, and journal editors for adding content to the IR
· Promoting the IR to the campus community
· Advising and educating the campus community about authors’ rights and other copyright issues related to scholarly communication
· Collecting and analyzing and reporting IR usage data
· Coordinating and providing training in support of the IR and scholarly communication on campus
Qualifications:
Required
· ALA-accredited Masters degree (must be completed no later than Aug. 2011)
· Prior success in managing projects
· Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written
· Excellent interpersonal skills for successful interaction via email, phone, in person, and in presentation venues
· Demonstrated effectiveness in problem-solving
· Friendly, approachable public service attitude
· Ability to meet requirements for tenure and promotion
Desired
· Experience in an academic library
· Experience with information technology systems such as databases, library electronic resources, server or network infrastructure, web pages, or other digital collections.
· Experience in digital conversion, file transfer, and file management
· Familiarity with digital preservation issues
· Knowledgeable about copyright issues and authors’ rights related to scholarly communication
· Demonstrated success in cultivating and developing relationships with academic units and faculty
· Experience with institutional repository platform
· Demonstrated success working in a team environment
Salary: $36,500-39,000, dependent upon qualifications and experience.
