Electronic Resources/Sciences and Technology Librarian

ELECTRONIC RESOURCES/SCIENCES & TECHNOLOGY LIBRARIAN

The University of the Pacific seeks an Electronic Resources/Sciences and Technology Librarian with energy, initiative, and vision to provide effective leadership and direction in the provision of library resources and services. The librarian’s role in the academy is changing, and that change is particularly apparent in the sciences. The Electronic Resources/Sciences & Technology Librarian takes a leadership role in the development of relationships between the University Library and faculty in Engineering, Computer Sciences, and other natural and physical sciences departments. This librarian develops productive partnerships with faculty for the development of programs and services.

RESPONSIBILITIES


* Develop and deliver a range of innovative library services that facilitate the curricular and research needs of students and faculty in the sciences, including engineering, computer science, physics, mathematics, and other natural and physical sciences departments (to be determined);
* Coordinates and manages the process of selecting, acquiring, licensing, and
evaluating all electronic resources, including establishing and maintaining budget guidelines for electronic resources and for testing, evaluating, and recommending electronic resources;
* Manages electronic resource statistical reports and provides assessment reports for electronic resources;
* Provides reference assistance, instruction, and outreach services;
* Cultivates relationships with teaching faculty in relevant subject areas;
* Employs new technologies in pursuit of teaching and learning;
* Assists in achieving and assessing the library’s information competency goals;
* Selects print and electronic resources in support of curriculum and research in relevant subject areas.
* Collaborates and actively participates in local, regional, national, or international organizations regarding related issues;
* Serves on/participates in University and Library committees, task forces, and teams as appropriate;
* Engages in scholarly/creative/professional activity as appropriate;
* Some evening and weekend work is required.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS


* ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science;

* Academic degree in the natural sciences or engineering discipline, or the demonstrated equivalent gained through experience in an academic science or engineering library;
* Successful experience delivering education, information, and research services in an academic or research library;

* Successful experience managing electronic resources;

· Passion for quality library service centered around student learning and characterized by collaboration with faculty in support of teaching and research needs;

* Commitment to providing high-quality public service within a flexible and continually evolving academic library environment;
* Ability to apply new technologies to library services;
* Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills;
* Demonstrated creative approaches to problem solving;
* Ability to work cooperatively and to foster teamwork;
* Demonstrated capacity to work effectively in a multicultural setting and a deep commitment to supporting and promoting diversity.

Self-assurance and flexibility to find one’s feet quickly and keep one’s balance performing a wide range of activities. SALARY AND BENEFITS

* Salary from $50,000, negotiable depending upon experience;
* Faculty rank of Assistant or Associate Professor, commensurate with qualifications and experience; non-tenure track.
* Twenty-four days’ vacation, 15 holidays/seasonal days; excellent support for professional development; TIAA-CREF retirement; tuition remission; and other generous benefits including health, dental, vision.

GENERAL INFORMATION

The University of the Pacific is an independent coeducational institution with 6400 students and 440 full-time instructional faculty, with campuses in Stockton, San Francisco, and Sacramento.. Academic programs include a liberal arts college and eight professional schools: Business, Conservatory of Music, Dentistry (San Francisco), Education, Engineering, International Studies, Law (Sacramento) and Pharmacy and Health Sciences (including Dental Hygiene, Physical Therapy, and Speech Language Pathology). Doctoral programs are offered in chemistry, education, and pharmacy. In 2009, the University of the Pacific’s Stockton campus was ranked as the fifth most beautiful campus in the nation.
