CAPITAL AREA DISTRICT LIBRARY

LANSING, MI

Due to the retirement of the current Director, the Capital Area District Library, headquartered in Lansing, MI is searching for a skilled administrator to serve as Library Director. The Board of Trustees seeks a seasoned executive with a proven track record of success and the energy and vision to take the library system to the next level of growth and service. Located in Michigan’s capital city, the Capital Area District Library serves a population of over 250,000. The staff of 262 includes 48 individuals with master degrees. The main library, 12 branches and bookmobile have a total budget of $12.4 million.

The ideal candidate should have a team approach to management, a thorough understanding of library technology, and be a visionary regarding library services. She/he should have an appreciation and enthusiasm for the library and its role in the community, as well as a strong public service orientation. Experience in library construction, millage elections, and management of a multi-branch system are essential skills.

The position requires an ALA-accredited MLS degree with at least eight years of progressively responsible experience in a public library, of which a minimum of four (4) years have been in a management or supervisory capacity. A background in urban library management and experience in managing in a union environment would be an asset. A second master's degree in business or public administration is a definite plus.

Salary: $95,000. Excellent fringe benefits.
