Position Description
The University of Montana invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Libraries.  The University seeks an experienced, innovative and dynamic leader to administer the University Libraries, working with the Provost, Deans, policymaking councils, and library faculty and staff to articulate plans for serving the educational and research needs of students and faculty.  The Dean reports to the Provost and is a member of the Academic Officers.  This 12-month position is available July 1, 2012.

Qualifications:
Successful applicants are required to possess an advanced degree in library science from an ALA-accredited or equivalent program, and a record of scholarship and accomplishment appropriate to appointment at the rank of full professor.  Additional required qualifications include: a minimum of five years of increasingly responsible experience in an academic library, including significant administrative experience in budgetary and personnel areas; demonstrated skill in planning, leadership, and communication; significant experience with information consortia and other cooperative entities; and experience with emerging information technologies and library systems.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:
Education: An earned doctorate or second master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education.
Experience: Innovative leadership in library applications of Information Technology; a strong record of developing extramural budgetary resources in support of research, teaching, service, and professional growth opportunities; demonstrated commitment to working with a diverse population; experience with student and faculty governance organizations as well as with community groups.

Salary
Salary is dependent on candidate’s qualifications and competitive with universities in the region
