Librarian for Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy


REPORTS TO: Head, Branch & Off-Campus Services Department
Northwestern University seeks a librarian to provide, promote, manage and evaluate library services and resources required to meet university research and teaching needs in the fields of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy; to actively participate in department and division strategic planning, project development, provision of public services and assessment activities; and to collaborate with members of the Science Disciplinary Cluster and other subject specialists in interrelated disciplines to develop creative and innovative programs, services and collections that meet the growing needs of the university’s scholarly community. The Librarian for Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy is a member of the Branch & Off-Campus Services (BOCS) Department. The position reports to the Head of the BOCS Department which is within the Library’s Public Services Division. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Masters degree in library and information science or equivalent combination of education and relevant library experience. Bachelors degree or equivalent in the physical sciences. Excellent communication skills, proven public services orientation and a working knowledge of evolving library technologies and standards. Familiarity with emerging trends in scientific publishing and scholarly communication. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Three or more years of successful experience in an academic or other research library in North America. A graduate degree in chemistry, physics or other physical science. Facility with visualization, data curation and/or GIS tools and processes.
