The St. Olaf libraries seek an experienced, creative, and energetic librarian to serve as the Interim Head Librarian of Technical Services and Systems. This is a full-time benefit eligible year-long appointment, with possible extension through the end of May 2011, while the current Head of Technical Services and Systems serves as the Interim College Librarian. Candidates should be well-versed in integrated library systems, especially desirable is experience with Innovative Interfaces (III). Experience in technical services and with library digitization work is also desirable. This position will provide leadership in library technology and will be opportunity to work on several exciting projects we are currently engaged in, including: (a) research and development of our new local electronic resource management system, (b) development of library and campus digitization procedures and projects (with our Digital Initiatives and Metadata Librarian), and (b) analysis and implementation of software we have recently purchased or are considering, including WorldCat Local, MetaLib, and open source ILS products.
This position will (a) plan, organize, and oversee the libraries' acquisition, organization, and distribution of information (including books, serials, and electronic resources), and (b) serves as the point person for technology and digital initiatives in the libraries. This position serves with other departmental heads on the libraries' administrative council and actively contributes to library-wide planning, policy-making, goal-setting and the development of new services and initiatives.

The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor's degree and an M.L.S. from an ALA-accredited program in library or information science, or foreign equivalent. A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in libraries is required. Experience in academic libraries (particularly in a liberal arts college) and managing a website (especially using Dreamweaver and ColdFusion) are desirable.
